The arrow indicate the direction of air flow to your inline diffuser.

    Re: Check valve

I am a little confused now.

I'm running the ANS bubble counter with inbuilt check valve, so I decided to add another brass check valve to be safe. Its the exact one that wst is using.

I set it up in the following manner:

Regulator connected to bubble counter ---> tubing ---> check valve ---> inline diffuser connected to lily pipe outlet.

My check valve is in direction of air flow, meaning the base of arrow is aligned towards bubble counter cum regulator and tip of arrow faces inline diffuser.

Maybe wst should let us know what kind of bubble counter he's using, it might be the same kind as mine.

Your setup is correct... most of us that use those metal bubble counters (which have inbuilt check valves) also use an additional check valve between the bubble counter and diffuser, this is for "double safety" and also to prevent tank water flowing back into the bubble counter (makes it dirty and algae starts growng inside the bubble counter).

When some people mention putting a check valve before the bubble counter, they are usually referring to those other types of bubble counters that don't have inbuilt check valves.

I'm using the ans bubble counter with check valve too.so having another check valve for safety purpose.

Thank you for your affirmation Idol!

I had half a thought to replace the metal bubble counter earlier as i remember one of the forumers advising against it as the check valve might fail suddenly. However, since i had done the leak test and was lazy to redo it, decided to leave it for now.

If so, the check valve should be placed somewhere between your bubble counter and the diffuser. Your setup is exactly like mine, using an inline diffuser. The additional check valve should be pointing in the direction of the Co2 flow, ie, away from the bubble counter.

Also bear in mind that the rubber o ring that came with the brass counter, which was initially fitted at the top, should be shifted to the bottom of the bubble counter, in between the regulator nipple and the bottom of the bubble counter.

If you are using an inline diffuser, like the Up Aqua super diffuser or atomizer systems (which have ceramic tubes inside the unit), they will create tiny micro bubbles which look like mist. If the Co2 system and inline diffuser unit is working properly, you should see your whole tank have a misty look with lots of micro bubbles drifting around.

The photo is cropped at the top and bottom so abit unclear, but assuming the Co2 tubing is coming out of the bubble counter and then curved downwards to the inline diffuser (somewhere outside of the photo), then the check valve direction is correct.
