This is 4ft long x 2ft height and 1.5ft deep. The tank was up and running since 2 weeks ago. PH8.5-9., KH8-12. I was planning to keep some tropheus (tangayika cichlid) inside there. But i got no luck to get any Tropheus Ikola from the farm.

Currently, there are 4 nanacara inside there to test out the water. Anyone here can recommend what fishes i can keep in there? (Left hand side stone is not enough. Going to get few more tomorrow morning from river side.)

Hi keehoe, the ph is above 8. I think i gonna get more than 200 lampeyes in my tank. Else, i can't locate where they are. By the way, I have a nano tank with lampeyes which is Ph6.6. They are spawning.

Flowerhorn! No way man. It will digging out and whack everything inside the tank. Arowana...My 4ft gonna be too small for it.

Any cichlids fans in here with this kind of biotope? Apistogramma able to survive in high PH?

There are a great many species of Lampeye, and hard alkaline water is appreciated by only a very few, AFAIK. Some like brackish estuarine water, too, but many are from soft, even acidic, rivers. Check conditions needed on a species-by-species basis. Most are insensitive to actual pH, but some are very strongly affected by what minerals are dissolved in their water.

This kind of generalization can lead a new killy keeper into doing the wrong thing. [Otherwise, I'd just keep my bloviating to myself. ]

Do your self a favour and get some Julidochromis (I like transcriptus but ornatus is nice too if you get a good strain) and some small Neolamprologus such as brevis, calliurus or caudopunctatus.

They will do well with lampeyes.

    Hi Dominic,

First of all, that's a nice tank. But I'd remove the Nannacara if I was you. They would be badly stressed by the alkaline water.

As for lampeyes, the small Poropanchax species would be good. There are brackish-water killies like Pantanodon that may do well in that tank. Alternatively, if you don't mind going a little off the beaten track, try estuarine fish like gobies and gudgeons. Bumblebee gobies in that tank might look very very nice indeed.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
    Back to Killies... slowly.
