    Re: Assassin snail kills Nerite

I've found that it depends on the size of the nerite snail vs the assassin snails, along with the availability of other types of snails in the tank. The assassin snails tend to attack and eat the smaller snails but leave the larger ones alone, i guess its easier to take down smaller prey.

Though if you have a few assassin snails, they may gang up on a larger snail, so there is still a risk there.

po4 is Phosphate - i did lots of reading online and even on this forum, i've seen people who managed to resolved or made the dealings better with po4.

i'm using Seachem Phosphate- so far it did help but not to significantly though. Those hard to reach area are the one i hope nerite snail can help me out with.

You mean Nerite snail didnt help your encounter with Green Spot Algae ?

Phosphate is the cause of algae. It is good for plant growth but excess will lead to algae.. if I not wrong.

I have stopped dosing seachem phosphorus as I notice it lead to more algae..

My nerite didn't help me much with green spot, always got to hand on to remove them
Furthermore, I got a team of yamato, otos, nerite, sae...

I'm going to reduce the amount of Fert, Hopefully with that, I can reduce the hair algae and stuff.

My tank has a Nerite snail bloom. I don't mind to get a couple of Assasin snails to eat up all the Nerite babies. There's just too many of them.

I think you got pond snail or ramshorn snail population bloom instead... nerite snails can't breed in freshwater (unless you have brackish or saltwater tank).

There's 2 school of thoughts to that perception I was skeptical too in the beginning. In fact I increase dosage for po4 I have been dosing it alongside with other ferts on a daily basis. So far only green spot algae causing problems

Apart from Nerite snail I'm thinking of reducing the feed of my discus. Right now feeding them twice a day which is below the average feeding (get bulk and shape)

Those razor blade algae scrapers will be the best tools to scrap off green spot algae easily... though i find that even just a piece of filter sponge held by pincettes can do the same job too, just have to put abit more effort in scrubbing out the tougher spots.

Yup I'm using that. I replace the blade with normal pen knife blade after use. I usually run the new blades under tap water and wash them with soap as they are usually oily. After that run under boiling water from flask. Attach and start scrapping. I do this once every two weeks GSA is a pain in the butt hole hahaha

Bro, best way to rid Green Spot Algae is through balance of nutrients... ferts are still required but in the right proportion. One good way to control algae is always introduce fast growing plants

    Hope this helps you

Do be careful with using certain sponges that are designed for washing plates, some of them are made with rough abrasive material which can create fine scratches on the tank glass, so to be safe its best to use softer sponge material to do the job.

I concur will UA... use the soft sponge.. i ever scrub my tank with scothbrite heavy duty green sponge pad..it remove algae and calcium deposit awesomely but it also mess up my tank with fine 'nice' scracthes.

Believe it or not. I just discovered the reason for GSA. Apparently when I swapped co2 cylinder to refill, my co2 air line came loose (check valve) therefore the tank has been running without co2 injection. I have since tighten the connection. Silly me.
