    Hi All,

Curious to know what is the top 3 problem/issue faced when trying to have a planted tank by local hobbyists.

It could be money, family support, the design stage, algae issue, hardscape, water change, maintenance, etc.

    Time.

24 hours in a day is not enough for cardio, bathing, getting kids to school, breakfast, commuting, work, lunch, work, tea break, work, drinking session, dinner, tuitioning kids, admiring of fish tank, feeding mermaid, oh, i mean fish, HIIT, sexy time and sleep. This is just weekdays.

For the weekends... it is even more.

Re: What is your biggest problem/obstacle faced for having a planted tank?

i got the space but no time..

7months since i started this hobby..
initially was with the tanks, from normal to getting crystal and low iron grade.
spending money, learning the balance of plants, admiring the fauna...
i wanted unique and miniatures plants but feel the local market is limited.
if not, too expensive as i find it silly to spend so much over a plant..

now, some how.. the passion dies slowly..
probably its me, i had this disorder whereby i get tired or lost interest easily.

Space and what's next after the scape matured!! Can't keep changing given it's time consuming.

Re: What is your biggest problem/obstacle faced for having a planted tank?

Perseverance (ability to endure through failures and learn through mistakes, no to giving up even scaping fail, plants melt/died or livestock die 1 by 1 or facing water perimeter issues) Not that i'm giving up this hobby, but i wish i could have more patience ~

Time (as a working adult, after work still need to travel back home, get dinner from else where and finally have the time to admire fish at night and time is passing so fast, the next day repeat)

Money (livestock to me is not expensive as i'm keeping tropical community fishes and don't buy very often, but the killer part is the soil, sand and the consumables like conditioners and supplements which is very addictive to buy better ones from time to time) especially when you start new tank or tend to do rescape often

i think these are the main 3 things that is my biggest problem

Re: What is your biggest problem/obstacle faced for having a planted tank?

From my analysis, looks like the common obstacle for most of us is basically just money...

If have more money, can buy bigger home and dedicate rooms to larger aquariums. So space is solved.

If have more money, can buy larger tanks and all the nice equipment. So affordability is solved.

If have more money, then no need to work so many hours at job or business, can allocate more time for family and hobby. So time is solved.

If have more money, can purchase tons of high quality plants and hardscape from the beginning and instantly fill up the tanks, no need to wait so long for them to grow out. So patience is solved.

If have more money, can hire a team of professional staff to maintain the tank for you if you feel lazy (you just do the scaping and design direction). So hassle of maintenance is solved.

So in summary, money is the main obstacle.

If I have money, I hire Amano and team to do the scape and maintenance but then it no longer a hobby.

Looks like all the problem that we are facing can only be resolved by ourselves.... Thought of asking around on the problem that hobbyists are facing and see if anything can be done or created by LFS or anyone to help with local planted tank hobbyists...

That is what this forum is for: sharing and helping each other.

Oh. and the occasional poisoning. "Have you checked out this new LED lights system? It can replicate sun rise, sun set and moon light! If you want more realism, just press this button here and there will be lightning to replicate a thunderstorm!" "Oh, what? You want rain too? Now check this system out...."
