My 30 inch tank with a moss tree and Riccia tree

The glosso is not carpetting cos the trees are blocking the light.

I also wanted to create more depth and perspective, with something like a mountain in the distance framed by the overhanging branches of the 2 trees, but couldn't pull it off

    still lots to learn!!

What lights are you using? Looks like it's too small for the tank as only the middle part is lit, while the sides are dim.

Yes the lights were meant for an old 2 ft tank....so definitely not enough for this tank

initially the trees were place separately in another tank until the glosso carpeted. Which it did....but once I put the two trees inside and blocked the light, the glosso stopped carpetting and grew upwards.

I guess there are no short cuts in this hobby!!

The Riccia needs a good trimming. The bottom parts of the Ricca clumps are yellowing.

I have never had riccia grow this long before..and without dislodging from the driftwood too!!

Is trimming the answer to the yellowing base or shall I re-tie the whole thing?

Yeah, riccia does not root to anything, so when the older bottom parts eventually melt, the top parts will detach and float up. You'll just have to keep re-tying it to avoid that issue.

I suggest using flame moss instead.
