For small tanks you can also just use this drip barrel from LFS, it sits on the corner of your tank, can get at places like Seaview and East Ocean:

    Source: www.up-aqua.com

The adjustable tap allows easy tuning of the drip speed. I use the 1 liter small barrel for slowly dosing medications and fertilizers diluted in water over the course of a day... works well.

    Re: Back with 8L tank

I tried diy by tying those moss myself before.

    It's tougher than it seems.

So this round i chose to buy.

I hope this moss can adapt to my harsh tank. It will be a shame on me if it lost its current greenery.

Sorry, forgot to indicate my tank profile.

    Tank Size 18 * 22 * 22 cm
    Lighting AquaZonic Universal Clamping Lamp
(not sure if its 7W or 11W)
    Filter In-built
Filter media AZOO Active Filter 4 in 1
    Substrate none
Fauna Red Cherry Shrimps (started with 10 + 1 juvenile)
    Plants Christmas Moss on Driftwood
Mini Fisidden on stainless steel mesh
    Air pump Yes
    Test kit None
    Fertilizer None
    CO2 None
WC Approx. 10% weekly using aged water without dechlorinator.
BB Agent A slight dosage of AZOO Supreme Bioguard during WC.

I am still "experimenting" if such setup will work out.
I am very bad at reading test kit, regardless if it s paper or liquid form. This is also one of the reasons why I am not using it.

    Re: Back with 8L tank

My WC was done harshly, simply by pouring the aged water into the tank. I am going to try the drip method. Going to buy the drip container shared by UA. I will post a review when I managed to get one in action.

Wow, no cooling fan at all? The RCS can take such temperature? And I like your idea of D.I.Y feeding dish, might adopt it too

I read a number of articles/posts with different suggestion.
So I decided to go without cooling fan.
Let's see if it worked out. Already 4 died. Hopefully the remaining ones can survive. No berried shrimp till date. So I would say my tank is not the optimum environment for them. Also good in a way, otherwise the bio load will be too much for this little tank.

Feel free to use the feeding tray idea. I reused the idea shared by others too.

If you want, I can pass you my tray. I am a number of spare ones. It is not the standard aquarium feeding tray though. It is those tea light glass holder from Ikea (something that has been in my storeroom for a long time )

    Re: Back with 8L tank

    Day 36:
    Left with 2 RCS.

    TankView.jpg

    Did 4 things today.

    1. Test Kit
Yes, finally I decided to give the test kit a try.
Shrimps kept dying and I just want to be sure that there is nothing wrong with the water.

    I bought the API 5in1.

    Readings were:
    GH: 0
    KH: 40
    pH 7.5
    NO2: 0.5
    NO3: 40

With the NO3 reading of 40, I decided to introduce the next item.

    2. Floating Plant
    (to reduce NO3)

After much research, it seems that Duckweed is not the preferred option because of the "mess" it will create. So I tried to grab any other small floating plant available.

Found a bag of common salvania and bought it to give it a try.

    CommonSalvinia.jpg

    3. O' Sea Mud
    (to aid moulting)

I have observed that the shrimp could have died from moulting problem.
There have been a white slit between its head and body, for a few shrimps (before its death).
I was not able to find a mineral rock. I have bought O' Sea Mud instead.

    O' Sea Mud.jpg

    4. Dripper
    (to assist water change)

I have bought this dripper (kudos to UA for the tips and other bros for the idea) for water change.
I felt this dripper was well-fabricated. But I still have the fear that it might have the tendency to fall.

This is how it stand on top of the tank:
    Dripper1.jpg

another angle on how it "sits" on the tank:
    Dripper2.jpg

to be continued in the next post (max. picture attachment reached)..

another angle to show the "groove" where it "fits" to the glass.

    and the dripper in action:

All in all, with the last adjusted flow, 800ml of water were drained completely for approx. 2 hours.
