Working Pressure of ANS CO2 System

    Hi,

I just bought a used ANS CO2 System and got the cylinder refilled.

Is it normal for the working pressure to drop after the solenoid has been turned on? - the working pressure is 55psi when it's off vs 20-25psi when it's on.

Did a check using soapy water between the solenoid up to the bubble counter to rule out any leak there but found nothing.

Could the pressure drop is due to the tube or diffuser? Quite puzzled by where the pressure is lost.

Appreciate anyone who could share their experience!

Yes, its normal for the working pressure to drop abit when the system is in operation. How much it drops depends on the amount of back-pressure it encounters from your diffuser system, if its a diffuser or reactor system that only needs minimal pressure to work, then the drop will be less... if its those atomizer or fine-pore ceramic systems that require high pressure to work, then the drop will be more.

    Thanks UA!

Ah. ...I see, means with this system, I should be able to use an atomiser or even an inline diffuser?

Your regulator might be the older version of ANS, which doesn't put out enough pressure for the inline diffusers to work. For those to work, you need a minimum working pressure of 35psi and above.

I'm using the ANS new version solenoid with an UP Aqua diffuser. When solenoid is off, pressure is over 60psi. Working pressure when solenoid is on is over 40psi.

In theory it should work, i use the same ANS solenoid regulator too (same initial 50-60 PSI working pressure) and mine works with atomizers and inline diffusers... though its abit odd that yours currently shows much lower 20-25 PSI working pressure during operation (mine only drops to around 40PSI when i use inline atomizer).

Are you currently using a diffuser system that requires higher pressure to work? or perhaps extra long Co2 tubing? or multiple check valves? Is the main valve fully open?

Re: Working Pressure of ANS CO2 System

I'm currently using the used ANS glass diffuser I got with the set - has a layer of algae on the ceramic. Tubing wise, I have just enough to connect from the bubble counter to the diffuser with a small loop to spare. I guess it only has a check valve in between the needle valve and the bubble counter. Main valve is fully opened.

Could it be the tube having micro cracks as it has aged? Or the glass diffuser that seems to release bubbles at a spot.

Otherwise, could be something wrong with the solenoid?

Okay, sounds like your glass diffuser is clogged up so its restricting gas flow and hence creating increased back-pressure on the system. You'll definitely need to clean the diffuser's ceramic disc, can soak it in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to loosen and dissolve away the algae buildup.

A properly working diffuser should be emitting lots of small Co2 bubbles from the entire surface area of the ceramic disc, not just from one spot.

Re: Working Pressure of ANS CO2 System

Just replaced the diffuser with my new spare See tiny bubbles being release like you said.

See a slight increase to 30 PSI.

How did you guys connect up your system with inline diffusers? By using the normal CO2 tubes too?

30psi is a little low, your regulator might be the older version. Do You have the box?

It should state "new version, works with bazooka diffusers" on the box.

Just follow the connection instructions on the inline diffuser or atomiser box... here is an example:

    Photo from Google Images.

As for the Co2 tubing, make sure you use Co2 resistent high pressure rigid tubing (not the soft silicon type tubing thats meant for air pumps).

@Mercur1al : I have the box. Yea, it could be from the older batch as you described.

@UA : Always suspected the pressure is lost on the tube itself or its connections. Thanks for sharing ☺ Will experiment with an inline diffuser after CNY to see if it works 😝 - just for the sake of trying.
