    chance upon the new year bamboos in Ikea. brought home to try them in the tank.
    I think they (the bamboos) are actually doing well.
    Chinese new year in the tank - Huat Ah!

    Nice arrangement, I think lucky bamboo fully submerged will not survive, atleast leaves must be out of water surface.

    Yeah, the lucky bamboo stems and roots can be underwater, but the leaves have to be above water, otherwise they will deteriorate over time.

    urban and greentank is probably right. it has been almost 2 weeks, the leaves are showing a bit of deterioration.
    well, it's a new year scape, after new year remove them...

    looks like the chinese new year lucky bamboo can be grown submersed. noticed the new shoots growing on the front 3 stems. also, the back stems with leaves show no deterioration since chinese new year 2015.
    These plants can be used for next scape. minimum maintenance, hardy, slow growing...

    Can i check if you stuck the roots into the substrate? Just bought 2 lucky bamboo about 60cm tall, the leaves should be sticking out the top of my aquarium..

    yes, stuck the roots into the substrate. Some of the leaves underwater may rot, but 85% survive for my case.
    The main problem is when water rots the stem. I suppose if one drip wax on the exposed stem, it will prevent this problem.
