Dear friends,
A shout-out to all fish hobbyists and aquascapers, of all ages, genders and races!
REACH Youth Powerhouse (http://www.reach.org.sg), a non-profit organization, endeavors to develop youths to their fullest potential through building of their physical, psychological and personality strengths, are looking for volunteers interested in the aquarium hobby.
Objectives:
1. To bring together people that are passionate about the aquarium hobby to share knowledge and help one another in terms of the aquarium hobby
2. To promote appreciation of nature through aquascaping.
4. To give members opportunities to put their knowledge and artistic creativity in aquascaping into practice.
Activities:
1. Sharing of knowledge on aquarium hobby via regular meet-ups
2. Setting up of social media space (whatsapp, facebook) providing guides and information to help interested potential aquarium hobbyist set up their own aquascape, as well as a channel for members to showcase detailed pictorial journals of their aquascape set-ups from start to finish.
3. Organize field trips to the various aquatic farms in Singapore
4. Approach various centres and homes within the community to pay for the service based on their desired budget in transforming spaces in their offices or strategic premises with beautiful aquascapes.
5. Offer maintenance services for a small token sum.
Benefits:
1. To promote appreciation of nature to members and youths through natural looking aquascapes
2. Empower them with the knowledge and skill to transform dull empty spaces into beautiful snapshots of nature, which can create therapeutic effects
3. Increased social circle and links with REACH Youth to build positive links and relationships
Action Steps forward:
1. Train up a core group of people, preferably staffs who would be willing and keen to anchor this, so that the interest group can be sustained and stable
2. Start with small achievable targets of creating a few tanks that are decent and proper
3. Start publicizing to the possible networks and community around to join in
4. Give the ownership of maintaining the tanks to the interest group so that it can be sustained over time
REACH have managed to get NParks to conduct trainings for volunteers, and in turn guide people who are interested in fish-keeping but do not know how, to setup a new fishtank from scratch.
REACH is also looking for sponsorship of new/used aquarium items. If you have any lying around at home, consider donating these items to REACH. Its for a good cause, so why not?
