Normally I use glosso, HC and hairgrass, but recently I've been using monte carlo, much easier to grow and you won't be able to tell the different with HC from photo.

I would like to hear from fellow hobbyist their preferred foreground plant(s) for carpeting and how to grow it well. Does your choice have a bearing on the size of your tank? I've just started on HC Cuba on my Nano tank using DSM. Its been only 2.5 weeks and so far so good.

no 1 choice for me now is Monte carlo easy to grow and stay low.......
next will be marselia... problem with this plant is that they will grow very wild and big
glosso if not careful, they will grow very tall
HC hardest for me to grow...
Tank Size = L60cm x D30cm x H36cm
Carpet Plant = Eleocharis sp. 'Mini'
Journal: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...Edge-quot-Tank!
Forms a nice dense lawn carpet, permanently stays short at around 3-4cm height (doesn't grow any taller than that), lowest maintenance carpet plant i have kept so far. They were in my tank for 17+ months and i never had to trim it even once (good for lazy aquascapers).![]()

After trying HC, eleocharis mini and UG. I'm more incline to go with eleocharis these days because of the maintenance. I still have a tub of HC and very hesitant to plant it lol.

Hc and monte carlo

i prefer Staurogyne repens - dense and doesnt require much maintainence
Eleocharis for me too.
Love the dense carpet they create. I failed once on HC, really tempted to try again just so succeed in keeping them alive![]()

Do share your HC experience and what went wrong. At which stage did things go wrong? After flooding post DSM?

Nah, I didn't plan the setup properly back then and only added the HC very late into the scape.
They didn't do well in the inert sand that I had either.
Though, I have a friend growing them on ADA La Plata sand and its carpeting beautifully.

I placed a small portion of HC on my bright sands path previous and it covered the 1/2 the path and I had to remove them. Seems like HC can grow in inert substrate with supplement from fertilizer in the water column.
