What is the best way to do this?

Hi all

I have a 1.5feet CRS tank, very stabilised over the years and shrimps are all healthy. Water is chilled to 24C and running a external canister. I am about to move house (3months time, hopefully). I want to migrate all of them to a new 2 feet using the same canister, same chiller. I want to change the soil as it has probably expanded its lifespan.

What is the best way to migrate them? Please share your thoughts and experiences with me.

Setup the new 2ft tank (can use a new larger canister filter seeded with mature bio-media from your existing tank), add the active substrate, let it run without livestock and complete cycling, once the parameters are stable, just do slow acclimation on the shrimps before introducing them in stages into the new tank.

If you are using shrimp soil that does not release ammonia, then you could even just let the tank settle for a few hours, test the parameters are okay (best of the parameters are similar to the old tank), and then start acclimating the shrimps and shifting them over in batches.

I heard about the substrate that does not release ammonia and no cycling needed, what's the brand again? I really do not want to get another canister to cycle the new tank. What I have currently is more than sufficient for a 2 ft tank. So I think the best is use the substrate you mentioned.. But what's the brand again?

I think you read about the Up Aqua Shrimp Sand? Yeah, that substrate doesn't release any ammonia.

Not sure if you are specific about substrate aesthetics though, but just have to note that the Up Aqua Shrimp sand looks more like hard coated ball granules (if you break a ball granule in half, it looks alot like those Maltesers chocolate ball candy) which look quite different from the other soil substrates, some people find it abit artificial looking but the advantage is they don't breakdown as easily into dust and mud like soil substrates.

I still got at least 70% balance of Up-Aqua sand for shrimps. Please PM me if you are interested. BTW, this sands is really good. Until now, i have 1 or 2 CRS death from out of 40 CRS.
