Custom tank – Alternative to Silicon [Black] sealant

Thought I would just seek the forums expertise as I am looking at getting a glass 4ft custom made tank [48L, 24w, 30h], so far Black Silicon seams to be the sealant of choice, but is there something else out there that seals the glass joints, but is virtually invisible? Is there a new glue technology that someone has seen?

When the height of the tank is higher, the pressure on the glass will be greater. As such, most folks prefer safety and peace of mind with reinforced silicon on the glass joints.

Besides black, there's the traditional white silicon. But if you are talking about the near invisible type of sealing method that you see on glass display showcases, then I think it's not strong enough to hold water without leaking or breaking.

One other thing to note, if you visit the silicon makers' sites, you will notice that a lot of the silicon are not safe for use in aquaria as it leeches toxins into the water. Most of them also list it in their packaging if you borther to read the fine print.Over an extended period of time, fishes will die. So make sure you use those that are marked specifically safe for aquarium use.

i prefer clear and minimal silicone. like ADA tanks. haha....

I think what's important should be the workmanship of custom tanks. tanks made by more reputable shops tend to looks better, especially where the joints are, black or clearn silicone is afterall your choice.

Sin chew might be a good place to start, but they are expensive.. They have done some tanks like changi airport, wisma atrium & etc
