I think those are just driftwoods.
But the maintenance of the tank will be a big hassle. It look very cool though.

Wow. Need to find such straight driftwoods, that's going to be a real challenge. And need a very thick substrate to plough it in too.
Yes. It would be difficult to find such straight driftwood but I do not think it is impossible.
As for setting it up. You can first use some rocks or even plastic pipes to first support the driftwood upright, then subsequently pour in substrate to cover up the support bases. There are many ways to go about doing this.
