    Hi all!

Need advise on filter choice.. for a 180x60x60cm (6x2x2ft) tank, which one is a better filtration system? I will be stocking with messy fish (I.e. koi - I know kois are for ponds)..

do I go with a sump or a cannister filter?

    if cannister, which one?

    cheers!

sump will be a better choice, the other filtration you can consider is those barrier filter used for ponds. I think vinz might be able to elborate

Canister versus sump for planted tank

Is a sump filtration approach suitable for a planted tank? I quite like the way all the plumbing can be made internal, but do not like the tank space taken in the corner for this to occur. Whereas a canister tank setup seems tidy underneath the tank, then you see external pipes going into the tank.

Both methods must do the same job, anyway Is there a happy compromise?

Have asked the same question recently. Advice from gurus is tt sump can be used for planted tanks.... but be prepared for HIGH consumption of CO2...!!!!

Thanks for the link, it was good reading... especially the bit at the end about the flow rates and chillers, which will keep me awake tonight as I am about to buy a new tank, and all the equipment in one go… so much to think about… it is difficult.
