When I turn on my Dymax 11w clip-on light, I notice my computer monitor's screen shaking. Is it due to its magnetic ballast? The distance between them is less than a metre.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Yes, it is due to the magnetic field generated by the iron core ballast.

No, there is not really anything you can do about it except by increasing the distance. I assume that you would not want to have an ugly metal sheet to shield your CRT monitor from the lamp.

I've managed to stop the shaking by relocating the power adapter. I've noticed that it says Plug-in Ballast on the power adapter, maybe the ballast is in the power adapter instead of in the light? And having it right beside my monitor caused the shaking.

    Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

PL lights do not need adaptors, they use 240V. That is your iron core ballast housed in the plug that had caused the interference.
