    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

I am not able to view the attachment in AQ but I am able to view those in google drive.

Is that a recycled glass bottle? Very nice and environment friendly setup.
It is interesting to see how you have diy the mosses. It might take a while to see the effect because these are slow-growing mosses.

Between Fire Red Shrimps and RCS, there is a wide difference in pricing.
Usually Fire Red Shrimp is around $2 each, RCS you can get 10 for $6.
It depends on your budget too.

I have been trying RCS and it is not so easy even though it is the "toughest" shrimp. Mine is also a small tank and I just do the basic setup. Somehow the RCS is not thriving, in fact dying by the day.

If I lose the current batch, I will go for Fire Red.
I chose Fire Red next is because it belongs to the same "family" as RCS, should an "easy and yet tough" job. Secondly is the color. It looked so much better than RCS. It will be easier to spot as well.

Good luck and enjoy the process.
I will share my experience if I happen to see something similar from your update.

You mentioned "water dispenser", is it a glass container with a dispensing tap at the bottom? Sounds interesting.

Yea, Found a stainless steel bolt to replace the previous plastic tap.

It was close to $25 for 25 strips.

I read from somewhere that liquid test is more accurate. I tried that few years ago but have difficulty reading it.

So I chose this "paper" test for easier reading. I still have problem reading between the colours. Had to ask my wife to confirm the reading.

what ive read was the paper test kits are not as accurate as the liquid ones. But the liquid ones cost a bomb

The initial price is higher, but the running cost of liquid test kits usually works out much cheaper compared to test strip kits over the long run.

For example, the API Freshwater Master Test Kit retails for around S$50 at local LFS (sometimes can be cheaper if you can find good deals online), but it can do up to 150+ tests for each of the 4 main parameters, so the overall cost per series of test is cheaper, and the results are more accurate too.

Yea for long term it would be more wise to get liquid test.

    Update
I took the dive. Got a number of RCS from a kind lady from carousell who wanted to give away some RCS due to an explosion in population. Her tank didn't have any filters so I assume I should give it a try. So far after acclimation process the shrimps are swimming happily in the tank! uploadfromtaptalk1426605898467.jpguploadfromtaptalk1426605913809.jpg

    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

    Update.
Surprise the shrimps all seems to be doing fine in the nano tank. Often seeing them on the sponge filter and the min fissiden pebbles. Also one of the smaller ones seemed to have molt.

On the side note how often should I change water for my tank?

Nice. I felt seeing a moulted shell is a good sign. I can't share the water change with you yet because I am still failing. My tank has been reset, I'll share more if I have good progress.

    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

Yea currently I'm trying a once a week water change.
    Update 29/03
Currently having some whitish stuff on my air line and suction cup. Didn't manage to find any thing on those. Seems like it's a new aquarium thing. Attachment 47758
The stuff on my air line.
    uploadfromtaptalk1427613561418.jpg
    More moulting happened today.
    uploadfromtaptalk1427613607872.jpg
The mini fissiden are growing well but the Christmas Moss seems to be yellowing. Not sure the reason why

    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

I am having a 10L nano for Neos. I am keeping mainly fire reds, red rilis, blue diamonds. Looking forward to expand colours into blue jelly, green shrimp etc.

    For the experience,
i have shrimps deaths approx 1 adult per day for a period of time. I attribute it to the learning curve and the ecosystem of the tank. Why?
The smaller our tanks are, the higher the impact of the flucutations of any negative water parameters. Having said that, neos are considered basic shrimp keeping cos it is easy to do so without expensive equipments to back you up. You can even do a tank with a good substrate and a couple of moss balls.

My tank is extremely highly populated due to my impulsive buys and i estimate it has a good 100-120 shrimps and shrimplets. I am not so worried about bio loads as they are relatively low and so far i do not see worrying signs in parameters. However, i could see certain stress indicators from the colours of the offsprings. I have fire reds offsprings to be downgraded to sakura grade, i was wondering if it is because of mixing of different strains.

Currently i have intro CRS into my neo tank , 2 A grade CRS to test the viability of the conditions. In fact they are active and surviving in the tank, feeding as per normal. I hope to see some miracles in breeding should i introduce more CRS into the tank.

My current set up is 10L, gex slim s HOF, a fan and a oxygen air bubble. Lightly planted with grass and xmas moss. 28.5degrees. Water parameters for Neo conditions.

Hi the reason why the fire red shrimps are degrading is due to the way genes transfer. You started out with a "pure" breed(Fire Red) but its offspring is not 100% "pure" Breeds. These offspring of a lower grade will then breed with the "pure" breeds to produce non pure breeds. The offspring will also breed together forming a even lower grade of Fire Red shrimps as the probability of them becoming a "pure" breed is very low. Only way to counter this problem is every time it breeds. you should take out those which are of a lower grade to another tank. This will allow you to have more "Pure" breed shrimps as you do not have as much genetic contamination. From what i have read CRS will not breed with Fire Reds haha, unless there are miracles.

How is your Xmas moss growing? mine isnt doing well at 29-30degrees. my tank is very small compared to your's i dont intend to introduce CRS are they are alot more sensitive creatures.

I used to have Christmas moss on a driftwood. Condition was very bad. After rescaping my tank, i removed the Xmas moss, salvage whatever is still green and kept it in my quarantine tank now. Let's see if I can get surprise growth.

    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

I use to have about 200-300 fire red in my 25cm cube tank,no casualties.

Never understand what is so hard about RCS.

Clearing my stock now so in case your interested, can pm me

My tank only have buceps and running with a hangon filter with clip on light.

Never measure temp or any other parameters, change about 50% water as an when i like.Usually 1-2times per week.

Dosed excel ferts by EI,estimate index.

Feeding everyday. No death or any sort for the past few months, left with rougly 70pieces due to clearance a lot.

Sounds really crowded. Keeping shrimps really is a hit and run thing. Like some houses might have water with too much copper, some have environment too warm. So it really depends on luck I guess. Unless you are using bottled water everytime and a chiller for a nano tank Haha. I believe 14liters can get some from you! Hope he succeeds

    Re: Water Dispenser Nano Tank

I like it crowded especially when feeding.Shrimp ball**

    Haha.

Well,i never treat my water with dechlorine.Always direct from tap.

I think because the previous owner i buy from breed this fire red for a few years in semi outdoor condition without change of water nor filter.

Just a simple airpump with stone diffuser thus the hardiness.

Imagine for a few year all he do is top up water direcr from tap too.
