Manage to complete my new layout today
Since i didn't have enough substrate to create my preferred layout, i added cheapo burnt soil as the base.

yup!I was inspired by that exactly, hence the resemblance
Quick update, never ever use burnt soil...! At least not the type I used, It stinks of chemical. I had to do a total re-scape due to the burnt soil has chemical in it. I only found out when i tested the pH, the readings went off the scale! Even the pH tester went crazy and unable to provide a decent reading. It was way, way, way beyond +19pH...Even after washing twice, the aquarium still stinks of the chemical smell.
'Bo pien', went out to buy proper substrate in the end.. , and wasted 2-3 litre of substrate because cannot use anymore. Wanted to save money, ended spent more on substrate. Cost me $60 for my ignorance...Don't know whether can re-use the aquarium immediately or not??
Simi ish burnt soil?
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

That sounds abit like the process that is used to make LECA/Hydroton balls, that also uses heat to expand clay, though the heat used is much higher (around 1,200 °C) and they are processed in a rotary klin to create the ball shape.
Anyways, it seems your burnt soil probably contained higher levels of calcium carbonate (from the mineral content in the burnt ash residue) and with reduced content of organic matter, both factors contribute to increasing pH.
Nice scape! May I know the light you used for this?
Nice! What are the yellowish/light brown granules on the gravel please?
10 tanks?!!! fooyoh.....![]()
Azman Haron, can get a few picture of your ten tanks? How do you placed them?
