Just an observation, all the plants you are planning to use in your current list so far are those attached to objects, none are planted into the substrate... so its actually not necessary to use aquasoil (can use other inert substrates like sand as an aquascaping highlight), unless you plan to also add rooted plants to the rest of the tank.

I see, okay that's a good plan. Though do factor in the extra nutrients being released by the soil into the water column, and due to the slower growth and slower nutrient take-up rate of those initial plants, you may need to do additional water changes to remove excess nutrients (and control lighting) to reduce potential algae issues.

    Kk
But I will minimise trying to do WC as I tried before and it took way longer for the tank to be cycled.
How long do you suggest having the lights on for my plant types?
Thinking of having otos to help me if I have algae issues.

    Edit:
OOh I forgotten that I was sold a bottle of starter bacteria by Alvin from Aquatic Avenue, used half for my previous tank

It really depends on the plant types in your tank... with slow growing plants like anubias, java ferns and fissidens, they tend to get attacked by algae quite easily if there is an imbalance of light and/or nutrients in the tank, so water changes help in part to balance the nutrient levels. The tank may take abit longer to cycle, but at least it could help to minimize algae issues.

For those type of plants, i would usually start with 6 hours photoperiod initially, and then gradually increase or decrease from there, see how they fare.

Otos can help eat soft green or brown algae from tank glass or plants, but they don't consume filamentus algae (ie. hair/thread algae), BBA, BGA, GDA or GSA, so you may also look into introducing other livestock like shrimps/SAE/nerite snails to help manage those other types of algae if they appear.

The short fuzzy ones that cover rocks and wood are usually called green beard/brush algae (GBA?)... those are quite welcomed by some aquascapers.

It's the long stringy types that are more common and tangle amongst all the plants that really annoy everyone.

AM I right to say that you filter intake is inside a vase? that might cause a little problem in filtration in future as there might not be enough intake space to suck the debris...
