    Hi members,
Today I was talking to a LFS who had some the most awesome planted tank. He informed that he's running Co2 for 24 hours and that he actually uses less Co2 gas when compared to switching it on & off before / after lights.

I have also read in many forums where people have Co2 for 24 hours to avoid Ph swings and stressing the fish but its mostly out of Singapore.
Can this Ph swings lead to BBA in the tank?

Can members please provide their experience. What are the pros and cons to this system?

    Cheers.

Interesting, how could running 24 hours uses less CO2 that running say 8 hrs a day, assuming both with the same bps?

At night, plant does not use CO2, it generate CO2 from respiration instead, same goes for the fauna. Thus the CO2 concentration could be very high at night if you keep injecting CO2, unless you turn on air stone to dissipate the CO2. This could also contribute to pH swing, more CO2, more acidic.

I think fish should be ok, as long as the swing is gradual but I'm not fish expert, I love my plant than my fish

The LFS did have a small power head pointing towards the surface for surface agitation.
BTW, why would you need more BBS to get the DC to be green when compared to having the Co2 always switch o n?
As for me I don't think I can go this route as my lighting period is only 6 hours and the balance 18 hours worth of Co2 will be wasted.

BUT the LFS's show tanks did not have a spot of BBA nor hair algae. For all you know, maybe they take care of the algae after closing the shop.

BTW have you seen the main planted tank at PolyArt (Clementi). It's so lush & green with no algae at all.

hard to tell because drop checker is not real time. It could be as I initially said, CO2 injection + CO2 from flora and fauna respiration. Furthermore during light ON plant is taking CO2 for photosynthesis, thus CO2 concentration is less.
