If you insist on using DIY then a ceramic atomiser, produces the tiniest bubble, will not work due to a lack of pressure. I used limewood atomiser with DIY and they were quite acceptable for me.

Alternatively, you can feed CO2 into a reactor. This is a better delivery system compare to diffusing.

Try a diffusing the CO2 into the intake of a powerhead hooked up to the light timer. Just make sure you use a rigid bottle for the yeast/sugar mixture and do not fill to the brim (leave room for error..or else your critter will get drunk. ).

how does a co2 atomiser look like? any picture of it? I'm on a quest to find something that produces the smallest co2 bubbles.

Those that really produce fine bubbles will be Eheim and ADA brands. I'm using one by the brand of Kare, and I find it good.

There's also a basic UP brand C02 atomiser sold by NA ( it's behind the counter, so you gotta ask for it ) that I've used before and it's quite good.

If there're big bubbles, I don't know, the only time I've got big bubbles was when my ceramic plate had cracks. =/

The Eheim one should be good. ( Should be imho ). IF you want, the ADA one should be guranteed to produce damn fine bubbles.

Also, puting a layer of fine sand on top of the ceramic plate will help in producing finer bubbles, and also stop algae from growing on the plate thus preventing clogging.

Since you are in the US, you always DIY an external CO2 reactor with parts from Home Depot (If one is near your area that is.). Do the feeding of the DIY CO2 at the suction of the small powerhead instead of the reactor chamber. Make sure you use a rigid bottle for the yeast/sugar mix though and do not fill to the brim.

Although I've seen many many people saying that ceramic diffusors do not work with DIY C02, I've proven them to be wrong. I was using a diffusor for most of my DIY C02 days. It's the way you mix up the thing I guess.

I've been using a glass diffuser for my DIY.
