    Hi guys,

I'm really a noob here, but putting aside washing filtration media, how do you guys do a water change for tank that has carpet grass (assuming monte carlo)? Do you:
    1) stir the gravels and suck out the dirt. How is this possible with carpet grass?
    2) just scoop out the water and replace back with new water?
    3) other ways?

If your tank has a good ground coverage of carpet plants, then just do normal water changes, not necessary to do gravel vacuum.

The waste that settle in the substrate will be broken down by the beneficial bacteria (and microfauna) inside the gravel, and the roots of the carpet plants will soak up the resulting nutrients.

I have monte carlo carpet currently and I don't see the need for 1) especially as the carpet is now close to 1.5 inch thick. I just siphon out 20% weekly and top up with DI water. Haven't cleaned my Totto filter for 3 weeks either.

You can try this if you feel that it is absolutely necessary to clean it, I have never done it as I feel it will pull up my carpet lol

Is this really necessary? Anyone tried and if the fine soil gets sucked up too?

But I think if the carpet is thick probably the soil wont get sucked up as much. (provided the suction is not the 2500w vacuum cleaner type . )

Excellent video. I had left too much nitrate in the tank without vacuum cleaning the gravel. I found something useful in this video. However, i just removed my plants and soils without any fruitful result. Actually, i should invest in one of these vacuum cleaner.
