East ocean got this super led bright light with acrylic stand. Super bright. Check it out.
Hello guys. After my previous experimentation with glosso, I've changed from a 30cm tank to the glassterior slim 450. This tank is lower and much longer. I'm thinking of changing my aquazonic 6.x watt clip on to a proper light as the clip on can't cover the length of the tank. Is the up aqua one recommended? The height of my tank is only 20-22cm, not sure if the up aqua it will be too bright for the fishes. Also I am using a hang on back filter on the left side of the tank towards the rear to make the water flow across the tank. This means that half of the depth if taken my the HOB. I see most proper lights have legs that stand on the edges. Will the lights work for tanks with hob filters.
additional info: currently planting Monte Carlo with tetras only.

pretty cool the setup.
hmm, the problem I have is that i'm using a HOB filter. the filter is on the left side towards the rear, so if i were to use this light, it will not be positioned over the centre of the tank. it will be position towards the front of the tank. Not sure if that's optimal..
That is the VG series of light. I am currently using it for my 1ft cube tank and its fantastic so far. Pretty value for money considering that the other brands like chihiros, and nana are almost twice the price while ADA is like maybe 4 to 5 times the price. Make is not fantastic but you would need really to be fussy to find the difference.
Thumbs up for this so far. Been 1 week since i got it. So far I am satisfied.

90 x 50 x 50 cm tank: Eheim 2217; ANS CO2 Solenoid with 60mm intense bazooka; Zetlight 6400; Teco 500 Chiller; Borneo Wild Steel inlet/outlet

I'm a little concern about the acrylic stands that comes with the light. It sits on the inner face of the glass pane. It gives the impression that it will fall into the tank easily. How secure and rigid is the stand to prevent that from happening?

The aqua one (or top aqua, easy aqua, up aqua etc) brand LED lights should suit the tank dimensions... only thing is the hang-on filter placed on the side glass, like you mentioned, would block the placement of their default stands.
One method is to DIY or customize a metal wire or acrylic stand for it.
Alternatively, you could look for the lightset models which are mounted with a clip to the back glass of the tank, like the 3rd model in this photo:
I've seen those clip-on wide lightsets available at places like Seaview, can check there.
hmmm, so I can either change to a canister filter.. or I continue with a clip on LED light. Has anyone used the top aqua ones before? I was thinking of the Up Aqua one cause there were very good reviews.
I was also a little worried. But after using it and fixing it on, I can safely assure you that it will not fall in. Very sure haha. But UP aqua brand seems decent too just that aesthetically not my cup of tea.

Just a reminder.
The Up Aqua type of lights got no recess area for lily pipes and inflow if you are going to put them at the short end of the tank.
So if OHF its okay.

like my example , bought lights and my tank is 3 x 1 x 1 . Abit no option so now custom another acrylic stand.
hm..these lights their pricing is very competitive.
My Gex slim 450 with shiruba X303 mini canister. My beamwork light actually eat up a lot of space, so I thought of VS series light, but seem like the watt almost the same. Hmm..
Beamworks 50 mode = 0.5 watts x 33 = 16.5w
VS series = 0.5 watts x 36 = 18.0w
It'll be best if you can switch to canister filter... even better if its paired with nice lily pipes too.
I've had good experience using the top aqua, easy aqua and up aqua brand lights. They are all based on similar designs (even the casings are often the same), just some differences in the number and arrangement of LEDs between the brands. So far the ones i use work well without issues.
Just check the specific LED quantity and specs on their individual boxes to see which ones you prefer.
Yeah, the beamsworks and VS lightsets have a wider casing design so they do tend to cover most of the top of a tank... the advantage is the light spread is wider too.
On the otherhand, the Up Aqua lights (and other similar brand lights) are much narrower and slimmer so they take up less space above the tank, good if you are using a narrow tank or prefer a more minimalist look... though that also means the light spread is narrower too.
Thanks UA. I don't think I have much choice except to go for the v-led-ec40 as that appears to be the only thing that'll fit. This HOB filter really gets in the way, but I really like it cause it's easy to clean. If I were to change to a canister filter, what would you recommend? Can I just move my filter media from my HOB into the canister?

For a Gex Glassterior Slim 450 tank, which works out to slightly below 20 litres in volume... compact canister filters like the Shiruba XB-303 that Dscheng uses is suitable, you can also look at other brands with similar canister filter designs like ISTA or Azoo too. If you go for an Eheim brand filter, a 2211 or 2213 could work well (though you may need to install a tap on the outflow to adjust the flow rate in case it's too high).
You can just transfer over all the established bio-media from the hang-on filter to the canister filter, and probably have to also top up additional new bio-media to fill up the larger filter media volume too.
UA, now I'm really contemplating getting a canister filter with lily pipes! Maybe I'll get the top aqua clip on lights first. I see that beams work has a few clip on lights too, but they seem rather small, but their LEDs are 1 watt LEDs![]()
Ok, just got the top aqua EC40 model. Nice fit, now i'm just hoping plants will grow under this light.
Oh no. Just realized it is only 10 x 0.5w LEDs. Do you think it is bright enough? Dscheng's beamswork has 33 LEDs. Doh!
The light you got does have less wattage in comparison... i guess you'll just have to try and see if its sufficient for the plants you plant to grow. Glosso is quite easy to grow and can adapt to different setups so the lights may be enough, can give it a try first. If really not enough then just have to upgrade the lights.
Note that your tank is a low-tech setup without Co2 injection, so plant growth is naturally slower and it may not require as much light as Dscheng's setup (his tank is running with Co2 injection).
Hi UA. I'm actually growing Monte Carlo with co2 now. Glosso was my previous tankI suspect the watt per LED is higher in this new lightest compared to my old one. I guess it's the watt per led that matters and not how many LEDs. I noticed the leaves were of a brighter green compared to when I was using the older light set. I think I'm pretty happy with it.
