Started a 4ft scape after experimenting with my first 2ft scape (on the right)... Tried to create a "wild natural" look that simulates a river... Any comments? Currently its kind of low tech... Occasional dosing of Co2... 7hrs light.. Running 2 canisters (1200LPH + 2000LPH)... Both inlets and outlets are on the same end because this tank is a room divider in my bed room!
Lifestock wise I've 40 red eyed tetras.. 20 silver tips and a dozen sepae tetras.. 3 Angels (actually 4 but one isolated because it has swim bladder issues).

im really very new at this... About 2months into this hobby so I don't know many of the names of the plants I buy from c328 haha.. I got almost everything inside the tank from c328... The 4ft tank was a second hand I got dirt cheap from a discus hobbyist.

Any comments is appreciated! Thinking of adding flaming moss!

    Re: 4ft beginner scape

I got a Juvenile discus from c328 to "try out". Loved how it looked in my tank. It was my first discus and I know water conditions are very important for discus. So I am trying if I can keep one alive first before getting more.
The tetras and Angels were not aggressive towards the discus and neither was it towards them. The tetras were just nipping at each other but not bothering it. My koi Angels are just in their own peaceful world..

    The problems starts:
Discovered one of the angel with sores over its body and fins. Soon after 2 of my angels died (surprisingly not the one with sores).. I isolated and quarantined that angel and started treatment.
Also realized discus won't come out of hiding. Went to do some research online and found out it could be the water. However it was eating and even blowing the sand in search for more food.

Decided I need a major clean up last night... Slept at 4am ... 50% water change. I also discovered dead plants (stink badly when I took them out) amongst the dense vegetation...
So I decided to change the placement of the wood on the right side to better manage the condition of the water there. A lot of dirt trapped among the pcs of wood. I took a crazy long time (like 2hours) to find the right arrangement of the hardscape. Replanted some of the plants that were uprooted, cleaned up as much of the ugly stuff as possible.
Added a heater (for the discus) though not really necessary since my room is so hot..

Today morning, water was clear again... Tank looked fresher. Discus is now actively swimming and eating but only in the corner of the tank. I wonder if it is scared of the tetras... Any ideas?
    Current livestock:
    1 juve discus
    1 koi angel
    10 SAE
    30odd red eye tetras
    20 silver tip tetras
    12 sepae tetras

On a side note: when I got the discus there was a tear in the tail. But just after a day, this morning I checked and the tail has almost completely recovered! That's a good sign I guess?

Just to note, the plant with leaves that have light green and dark green stripe is non-aquatic... its a type of dracena species, commonly used as house plants.

Yeah, the ones planted near the substrate that has leaves in a star shaped pattern.

Not sure about whether it contains toxic sap, but usually such plants wouldn't grow much and just gradually deteriorate over time, might take weeks and months to melt though, they have very tough leaves.

Some people like it, so they simply leave it in their tank until its time to remove it.

The only time I had a 4ft tank was when I had my beautiful Luohan fish. After that, it is only 2ft tanks which have limited potential for exercising creativity.
