4ft beginner scape

The only time I had a 4ft tank was when I had my beautiful Luohan fish. After that, it is only 2ft tanks which have limited potential for exercising creativity.

Haha.... My juve discus is very active swimming right now but it doesn't really swim horizontally along the length of the tank.. But likes to go to the corners... And swimming up and down like its playing with the current or smth..
Is this normal behavior?:/
It can do that for like many many times.. Just up and down... Then it goes to another corner to do that haha... Quite amusing but I wonder if I should be worried

Need another advice... In my school of red eye tetras I have about 5 of them that looked diseased lol... I tried to net them to take them out but it is really hard considering they swim so fast and I have a lot of stuff in the tank...
Should I persist in taking them out? Or leave them till they die and remove them... But I'm not sure if it is spreading to the other tetras..
So far the SAE... Other tetras seem ok... Like it's an isolated species issue..

An update: tried turning off the filter to lower the water current.. Discus still does the up and down thing. Not sure if I should be worried because I usually thought discus should be graceful in their actions? Haha
It looks and feels healthy and eating bloodworms at the moment. It's not hiding and even comes right up to my hand when I hold the blood work cube at the surface!

Looking good . It's just me, I had the same soil over sand issue, it would look better if you can get rid of those soil on the sands haha. I think more small leaves plants will make your tank look even bigger, just a thought. Would love to have a 4ft tank too, flat too small haha.

Very nice 4ft scape. Like the way you mix sand, driftwood and stones.

Haha it is more of a thin layer of sand over soil... The centre where I plant the plants has soil underneath. So the plants are planted into the soil, but there is a thin layer of sand over the soil to give an illusion that it's all sand.. However over time the soil came out during the rescape and all. Personally I do like the "dirty" look of soil spilling over sand.. Abit more "natural"? Haha..

So some of the plants are planted into soil.. Some are just "dangling" and hanging from the hardscape, some were bought attached to wood already!

Actually this tank is like a divider in my bedroom. It's not a big bedroom but with some advice from my mom, did arrangement of the furniture to make space for this tank haha... Maybe I could show you some photos

Always seems to swim towards me when I approach.
Most prob getting one more from c328.. Hopefully same batch.

That should be water sprite, very easy fast growing plant, can be grown rooted or floating.

The aerial roots growing out at random parts of the stem is a normal characteristic of the plant, as it also takes up nutrients from the water column quite effectively too.

Are the red eyed tetras disturbing your discuss? Red eye tetra can be quite aggressive.

Went down to c328... I stay pretty near, and bought home an almost adult size discus. Chose one that looked the best, potential to be turquoise/blue (couldn't really tell in the shop because they are all so stressed out) but didn't realize it was so much bigger than the juve discus until I put it into the tank!
They look like they love each other! Haha, the small Juve is always cuddling up to the bigger one and the bigger one doesn't seem to be bullying or minding the juve much.
Color seem to be coming back, the blue looks pretty magnificent! Hopefully it turns out well!

Now both of them like to swim up and down the corner of the tank nearest to the entrance of the room! I don't know why they love that corner so much!

Just an update:

Last night when I came home Bigger discus doing well, swimming with small discus both look happy and excited to see me!



This morning however it was only bigger discus swimming to the front.
Small discus stayed near the heater (30-31 degree Celsius)
Big one's blue color is really coming out! So pretty!



Both are eating and searching for food on the ground (not very smart though I have to literally dangle the food in front of them esp the big one.. Any suggestions?)

But small one not coming out and they are not swimming together anymore hmmm :/

Haha thank you!! I can't decide if I'm done scaping the tank but I've already spent so much time and money... But always thinking of new plants to add to fill in and all !!

Actually I've 2 more 2 ft tanks too
One another of my scape and the other a temp housing for my ornate Birchir (haven't decided whether to keep it or not).

I don't have a bed! More of a sofa bed so it doesn't take up much space!

Mom already complaining I've too many things in my room...

looks like a show tank from any of the "major" LFSs. good job! really nice layout of hardscape. i would suggest think letting the plants "grow in" and "grow out" to observe the overall look for another two months before tinkering with the tank. Gotta resist the itchy hand syndrome haha.

Hahaha I did research and inspiration from Pinterest and this forum's old posts (Project L etc) before starting on this project so I went in knowing I wanted a River look haha... Okok I should definitely let the plants grow in first!!

It's soil under the sand in the middle yup!!
