I'm thinking between the two set and not quite sure which way to go. Can anyone suggest please?

I found one set of ATI 6x39w for a very reasonable affordable price (few hundred) where Maxspect is going to be new (~600) I think.

The only thing I don't like about the ATI is the tubes where I have to replace them every 12 months and they are not cheap.

Work out the cost, let say for the next 3 years. Which will cost more to maintain

Also factor in that that ATI Sun Power only has a rudimentary 2 channel light control (basically 2 power cords linked to separate sets of light tubes)... whereas the MaxSpect Razor has programmable dimming of the individual color channels and LEDs, so you can further fine tune it for more gradual ramp up/ramp down light levels (ie. dawn to dusk effects, moonlight etc).

The T5 bulb need to be replaced at the 9 month mark, not 12. So, in 3 years, you need to replace them 4 times. And they need active cooling, ie, fan directed at both end of the light tube.

Re: ATI sun power or Maxspect

I have a maxspect 120w 8k for a 2 ft. I must say that t5 coverage is better due to the reflector. However,if you get their light dispersing module and hang the lights high enough, you should overcome that problem for maxspect. Honestly, nothing beats being able to dim the lights as and when you want to. You can always ramp up for high tech high maintenance or lower it for low tech low maintenance. Using it for about 2 years now. Never regretted it.

Been researching as am thinking of getting Maxspect as well.

Bro Phillipians, may I know how you currently program the 6 time points and the % split between A/B channel please? I'm trying to read up on the web but not much info is given on what's the impact if a certain channel is turned up to a higher % than the other.

Just fiddle around with it. It takes the average of the 2 points.
Eg 12.00pm 40% and 1.00pm 60% it would function at 50% during that timing.

Re: ATI sun power or Maxspect

There is a new Maxspect model coming out during Aquarama 2015 IF I am not wrong.

Re: ATI sun power or Maxspect

Was a bit disappointed at Aquarama this time. Mostly were Marine tanks and only few nano planted. I didn't see any Maxspect there, only Sanrise. What are te differences between these two brands

Has anyone tried to compare before?

Re: ATI sun power or Maxspect

The new Maxspect was there, had a go at it, a quick look over as there were other trade visitor around that came to the booth just as I was talking to the representative. I went to the other booth which was showcasing the Aqua Illumination Prime, same thing happens.

Dont let the low planted tank display numbers let you down, the hobby is still alive and kicking, just that some are not present there at the exhibit due to other factors. The fact that the brands of equipment are still seen in the lfs indicate that the trade is still active. Maybe due to logistical reason or lack of manpower or time that some regular exhibitor in the past were not present this year.

another consideration if you are aquascape or wanted to become one, LED give you harsh light where as T5 is soft light look. It is just like flash photography, picture taken using flash with diffuser look nicer than without diffuser. Although I'm using LED in some of my tank for $$$ saving but personally tank lighted by T5 still look better in comparison.

Very good points raised here. Actually I like MH the most but due to heat and costs factor I guess nothing beats LED (for now)

I couldn't find the Maxspect on Sunday, maybe it has a totally diff look. And of course I forgot to ask )
