I have to bring it down using sera peat in the filter to 6.4/6.6

I notice that you have not posted your tank ph. as mentioned, drip acclimatization is to reduce fish stress. rapid change of ph (from aquarium shop water. to your water) will kill fish.
The only water parameter I measure will be the pH. Not so regulate because nevr really take note. The most recent measurement was 7.2 think 2 weeks back. Before that was about 2 months back measured was 7.0.

The strange thing is when I introduce them example neon tetra it's almost instant death , from there I suspected that my setup isn't suitable for certain species .
You must take note that I know next to nothing about keeping shrimps. The only thing I know about shrimps is that I used to feed my old Luohan with expensive dried shrimps (Luohan food). Shrimps are a whole new ball game which only very experienced aquarist veterans should indulge in. Personally, I also have zero interest in shrimps.

Thus, my posts are exclusively restricted to keeping fish.

Maybe u can test the pH from ur direct water if it high then better check with the authority to wash the storage tank. Depends on where u stay as will as if it hdb, we will storage the water on roof n the tanker for old estate will rust and animals dies in it causing the unstable of water. Hopes it helps.

I using aqua science to remove the chemical in water by adding into main tank before I introducing new water.

I agree on the possibility of older water storage tanks in apartments and flats that may be dirty or creatures died in it (remember there was local news a while back of a body found in HDB water storage tank, and the entire block of apartments were still using that water supply).

A while back i helped a friend test his tap water parameters (he lives in a 30+ year old HDB flat). His tap water TDS was unusually high, around 200+ ppm... and the ammonia was 1-2ppm and nitrates were around 40ppm, which is odd for local tap water. We suspected there is something rotting somewhere in the water supply, most likely in the water storage containers. Anyways, he got scared and end up using RO/DI unit to distill the water before usage.

Nowadays i also scared to drink water whenever i visit his house too... will always ask for can drink instead.

Perhaps with your water test result, you can approach the HDB Town councils to inspect the water storage tank for any dead animals.

If nothing is found, the tank should also be completely cleaned and flushed. I think it is our right to request this as we had been paying them fees and charges every month.

Yeah, not sure if my friend's apartment storage tanks were cleaned since then, i guess no one is actually aware of whats in those tanks or how clean they are (its not like the building maintenance people will tell everyone what they actually found in there, could be all sorts of weird stuff).

If you think about it, most people will just blissfully drink their tap water and bathe with it and trust its from a clean source... its only us aquarists who actually test our tap water and happen to discover these odd results.

From my own experience 7.5-7.8 is the PH level I straight from tap after aging the water.

My stupid JBL 6 in 1 testkit show difference result.

    Nitrate :10ppm
    Nitrite: 0.5
    GH: 3
    KH: 6
PH: 6.8 (but my API testkit show 7.6)
    CL: 0.8

    TDS pen: 83ppm

Do you think it is accurate reading for tap water?

Yeah, pH of around 7.4-7.8 is normal for our local tap water... its processed/treated and kept alkaline to reduce corrosion in water pipes.

You'd be more worried if its acidic, could mean some acidifying process like nitrification activity in the water source.

Is the JBL kit using test strips? They do tend to be less accurate and can sometimes produce odd results.

Nitrite is usually zero... and KH seems abit high (usually its 0-2), the rest of the measurements look okay.

Your TDS readings are normal too.

    Agree with urban aquaria ,
Tds from tap is usually around 76-90odds .

An alternative solution is to get a PH test pen calibrate it , and use a test kit as a reference gauge . From the result yield , u will be able to cross reference . Test kit in my opinion test yield there's a slight different .

The Reason for getting a PH pen is because it uses probe instead of solution . Thus it will work great as a reference guide .
