I’m sure many of you must have heard of the phrase : “If it ain't broke, don't fix it” and wondered if it’s really true.
Let’s just say, I learnt it the hard way, last night. It happen to my 30 days old UP brand inline diffuser which by the way is an awesome device. It’s the best diffuser for your money’s worth.

I usually change my ceramic diffusers once a month and on this fateful I had to do it.
Being a true blooded Singaporean, after replacing the ceramic diffuser tube and while tightening the plastic outlet tube, the kiasu guy, hidden deep inside me, took over.

    So what do I do?
I used a spanner to tighten the hose even further!

What happened after that? Well, I’ll let the photos below do the talking.

So the moral of this story is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

BTW, how do you tighten the plastic outlet tubes to the main body of this diffusers? Will hand tightening be enough?

use hand is enough, even using hand I do not turn so tightly until it cannot turn anymore. As long as no leak is good enough.

this is what happen if you tighten the co2 nuts too tight using hand

If it ain't broke, don't fix it – Co2 Inline Diffuser

I got a brand new co2 inline diffuser and had to dump it too

I think there was a micro crack at the plastic, and I didn't even tighten it too much. When my co2 was on, there was a fizz sound - so evidently it was leaking!

I tried to use some plumber's tape to seal it but it proved to be useless. The following day I saw a tiny (thankfully) pool of water, confirming that the diffuser was done.

That was my second diffuser, the first one is still functioning at tip top condition at home. I've since replaced the spoilt UP co2 inline diffuser with an Intense version - but only because the 12/16 UP version was no longer available.

In any case, I think using a spanner to tighten these fellas are unnecessary, the screw tightening knob should be good enough by hand.

    P.S. I love meows!

    Hi Filet,

I have the same Co2 inline diffuser used for 1 day only, as output request high co2 pressure which i can't use it.

actually, I think there is a "flaw" or we over zealous or we too used to ehiem fittings.

The threaded parts which attached to the hose have no guide or stop, usually we will just insert all the way in and tighten the nut.

For my case I the hose was stucked , end up cutting off a stretch and forcing the remaining hose out.

    Hi glamourjojo,

I thought it required just 35 PSI, according to the instructions on the manual? Even the ANS manual regulator should be able to output that pressure, if I am not mistaken.

Sometimes the bubbles take a while to be diffused by the internal ceramic.

I used a co2 safe tubing (hard tubing) for the air input. When I took out the tubing, the plastic nipple of the inline diffuser broke off!

Hi Shadow, didn't hear from you for so long.
BTW, you have some nice collection of nozzle screws.
I bet you're proud of them if not why would you have them all lined up nicely and take an awesome photo of screws. (Just kidding)

OK now, I know that hand tightening is good enough. Thanks.

This how I tightend the tube to the main housing last night.
    Cheers.

Yes! The same thing happened to me too. After replacing the ceramic tube, the next morning, there was like 3 cups of water on the floor. Luckily, I had forgotten to take away the towel which was on the floor and it was soaking up all the water. But I thought that I had not tightened the hose and that's when the spanner idea struck me.

Me too. I had my old Intense brand diffuser and it saved my day.

Humm...I have read many people's experience very similar to yours.
I thought the same may happen to me and so I ordered this brass extension from UK. This device is attached to the diffuser's plastic nozzle permanently and the Co2 tube is attached and detached on the metal side.
But till now, I have not used this as I have attached & detached the hard Co2 tube many time with no issues at all.
Maybe I have the fingers of a heart surgeon.
    Cheers.

You might try to seal the crack 1 & 2 with the liquid glue that they use to join or bond Acrylics. Signage shops or The Hardware shop at Pet Alley that also sell acrylic sheets may be able to glue it for you.

Plastic material have different grades / strength. Some are just stronger than those made-in-China low quality copy.

    Hi WingCher
Unfortunately I have searched in all the LFS here but none carry it.
I think they don't so for a reason. If they sell this replaceable ceramic tube, you don't have to buy a second diffuser.
I got mine through a friend's trip to HongKong. Now I just have the spare tubes soaking in Hydrogen Peroxide in an airtight bottle ready for action anytime.
    Cheers.

Re: If it ain't broke, don't fix it – Co2 Inline Diffuser

I believe it won't get choked as the co2 diffuse from outside to inside. But I've noticed that my co2 bubbles are getting bigger, thus the efficiency degraded and hence I hope to change it
