    Re: Snail egg not hatching

If they are nerite snail eggs, they may need even higher salinity brackish water or maybe even saltwater to hatch. The hatched larve need saltwater conditions to grow and develop, before they can slowly transition back to brackish or freshwater environments.

Yes. They are nerite snail. But I was told that they will be able to hatch in brackish water. Hmm... if that the case, I shall increase my salinity. What will be the best range?

    Thanks

    Re: Snail egg not hatching

Well, so far i have kept a brackish water tank with salinity up to 1.015 SG... the nerite snail eggs in that tank still lay dormant, so i guess they probably need even higher salinity to hatch (i never attempted to increase it further due to the types of fishes and plants in the tank).

I guess you could try the same or higher salinity levels and see if it works. Do post updates if you manage to hatch the nerite snail eggs and successfully grow the larvae.

Btw, its best to use a good quality marine salt mix to increase the salinity, as it contains various trace minerals which are not present in normal aquarium salt.

Yes. Currently my salinity is at 1.012.. I will try to raise it to 1.018 slowly.

This is my snail tank. Hopefully will see some larvae soon. Will keep you guys updated again. Anyway. How long will it take from the egg to hatch to larvae stage.

Yes. I am using marine salt. So shouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Re: Snail egg not hatching

It seems the eggs can take from a few days to a few weeks, to even months to hatch. Looks like just have to wait and see. I guess the eggs can somehow detect when conditions are favourable to hatch?

Anyways, i've read that after the eggs hatch, the larvae need full saltwater conditions to develop, probably they need very high mineral content in the water to grow their shells.

    Re: Snail egg not hatching

Let hope so. I will add it to 1.018 first and observe to see if there is any larvae. Else I will increase the salinity again.

I had added lots of shells and crush coral in my filter. Hope this is enough.
