I think this is planaria, I'm not too sure. Can someone help me confirm ID?

Yup. Actually planaria has no harm on the shrimp. Throw some rasbora fish, they will eat it.

Unfortunately, rasbora will eat those new born shrimplets. Alternatively, get GUSH brand catchpen to lure all the planaria. Control your feeding, if your is planted tank every 2 or 3 day feed once on shrimp.

Any shrimp safe chemicals that you would recommend?

    Re: Is this planaria?

My personal opinion is that planaria will latch on and attack a weakened shrimp that otherwise might have a chance to recover and survive later. I've got a planaria outbreak past week in my tank too. Have reduced feeding to less than 50% but seems that they are still around and are more adventurous now (climbing on my glass surface even).

I've just diyed a trap from API test tube. Credit to this guy in the link below (moderators, correct me if I'm not allowed to do so).

    http://fishtankprojects.com/diy-aqua...aria-trap.html

I made some modifications to it though. Used a vitagen straw instead of air tube (smaller hole). First time I used, caught nothing . Then I figured maybe the bait I used was the problem as I was using shrimp pellet made up mostly of plant matter). Changed the bait to some leftover flakes I had from the time I kept bettas and woke next morning to see about 7 planarias inside.

Wow, nice trap! But what did you use to cover up around the mouth of the test tube? (Btwn the mouth and the straw)

    Re: Is this planaria?

Hello, you guys could try this product called "No Planaria" which on experience, helps to reduce the planaria population drastically. This product however didn't eradicate the planarian population in my tank completely.
You could try to get some corydoras or a few kuhli loaches which are shrimp safe and would sift the substrate for worms. I doubt they eat shrimplets unless on accident. Good luck

    Re: Is this planaria?

Try to get any anthelmintic drug in your pet store containing Fenbendazole
usually 1 doze/pill is enough for 70-100 litre tank (this is valid in case of adult dogs/cats, but in case your drug is for kitten/pup, the dozsage can be x3-x5).
safe for shimps, but can be deadly for some clams. I lost my fingernail clams using Febtal (I guess you don't have such drug containing abovementioned fenbendazole in your market, but I am sure you have other medications).

Think I'll create new thread with pics on how to make your own. It's easy. Newbie like me only take 5mins to make it.
