Does easylife algexit treat green water issue?

before i head down to buy a bottle, just want to check whether it is effective for green/brown water problems.

i dont have bba or hair algae etc. only problem i face is my water is brownish/greenish.
prefer not to submerge a UV filter, so i would like to seek experts opinion whether algexit treats green water? because i read on the bottle that it only specifies those algeas growing on the surfaces. it did not mention those the suspended algae

Yeah, green water isn't specifically mentioned on the AlgExit bottle, but it does say "targets green algae", so there is a good chance it affects green water algae too. Can try and see.

You'll still need to solve the underlying causes though, ie. excess light and nutrients, otherwise it'll be like fighting an uphill battle.

If its any indication, whenever i take water from tanks that have been treated with AlgExit to try culturing green water (to feed my filter feeders), it takes forever to get green water going... end up have to use old water from non-treated tanks then the culture can start up.

An alternative to chemical treatment is to try filter feeders instead... like golden clams, daphnia moina or mountain shrimps etc. They consume green water in large quantities and could be a better more natural method of managing green water conditions.

Blue Exit is designed more for dealing with cyanobacteria (aka blue green algae), so i guess its probably less effective against green algae.

As for golden clams, i bought mine from C328, they usually come in packets of a dozen or so small juvenile golden clams. The alternative is to check at Aquarist Avenue, they sell much larger adult golden clams (even purple ones too).

I'd think that around 6-7 juvenile clams (ie. 1cm size) or just 1-2 adult clams (ie. 3-4cm size) would probably be sufficient for a start to help consume suspended algae in a 3ft tank. Their effectiveness would still depend on the rate of algae production though.

Do note that clams tend to be more susceptible to chemicals or medications being dosed into tanks (due to their filter feeding characteristics), so have to keep that in mind when they are living in your tank.

thank you UA, you are awesome. theres nothing much i can do to mitigate my current situation, sadly. the tank is right beside my window.

things that ive done are listed below, without much help:

heavy planting
using floating plants
vinyl wrap with black sticker on 3 sides
reduce feeding
totally not turning on the lights

but i have yet to try UV lights and total black out method.

ill give clams a try first. followed by algexit. and if still fail, ill use UV

Yeah, sunlight does contribute alot to excess light getting into the tank... its tougher to solve algae issues with sunlight being a factor, just have to find ways to minimize it.

Do note that while all the things you do may help with the green water issue, the brownish tint in the water is caused by tannins released from wood or soil, so those can only be removed by water changes or carbon.
