Haiz... After I corrected my GH/KH and my cherry shrimps start to breed again, this my 3rd time seeing my female shrimps got raped by 2-3 males, also my 2nd casualty during mating. One of them is my last veteran from my 1st batch of shrimps. This one is my 3-4month old shrimp.
Last week, I managed to save one by segregating her in a net after seeing her avoiding the males after mating. I saw her trying to kick away the males when they are going near her then she keep swimming away. No mater where she hided, those males managed to find her so I got no choice but to segregate. After a while, I saw her bearing eggs which I believe she trying to find a safe place to fertile her eggs by using the stored sperms.
I also have 3 other berried shrimps which I not sure if they got raped or not. @_@ I am confused if I should do something or not.

I like your Moina culture. Some are quite big and round, like Daphnia Magna.
Hope you can keep the culture ongoing. It will be a pleasure to see them fill up the whole tank densely.
Being able to sustain a growing Daphnia culture is itself an achievement.
Fish/shrimp-keeping then becomes a secondary activity.![]()
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!
Thanks~ I actually quite surprise to see them so big and round unlike how they look like on the 1st day when I bought. BUT........
My main Moina culture tank crashed after 2 weeks. After I removed the bag of potting soil, the population started to decrease till 3-5 Moina left. Now I not sure if it's the potting soil giving off BB to keep the tank healthy or it's giving off bacterial to feed the Moina. But I think the sunlight has build up enough algae in the tank as my tank is beside the window absorbing the mid noon to evening direct sunlight. My bottom of the tank are fully filled with algae and partially for the wall. Which I afraid the direct sunlight is affecting the culture due to the raise of temperature.
After I saw my population reduced, I transferred 3 Moina into a aged Jar with only aragonite substrates. The jar only exposed to 1hr or less direct evening sunlight and no feeding also. It's has being a week, it's still running but the population is only less than 20.
I got myself another $1 culture 3 days ago and drop the idea of waiting to culture to auto reset. I planned to reuse the old culture water. So I filtered the culture water and fished out the remaining critters and placed them in a jar. XD I realize I have around 50-100 copepods. Then I got myself a tank of green water while washing off the algae in the tank. XD I didn't know those wall algae can actually dissolve in water. I filtered off the remaining residue from the green water using a brine shrimp net. Then I dechlorinate then green water and mixed it with the old water.
This time round, I stick an aluminum foil on a side of the tank to deflect most of the direct sunlight. I used aragonite substrate(instead of sea salt and baking powder), straws, charcoal and air pump. I got 2 mini tank of cultures too. 1 indoor with partial led light, aragonite substrate and hay. The other one with partial direct sunlight, aragonite substrate and charcoal. Hopes this time either one of them can work.
Now I more interested in Moina and Daphnia than shrimp and fish. Thinking of making a Moina ecosphere. They are like little fat birds in the aquarium.
