    DIY a external probe on Hailea chiller.

    Please don't attempt if you are not qualified. I assume no responsibility other than sharing what/how it can be done cost effectively.

    1. Buy a $3 digital temperature meter - use only its Temperature Probe/sensor and its wire, connect to a male connector from 2 below. (Keep the display & battery)

    2. Salvage some connectors from discarded LED lighting, alternatively buy it at 50cent each- 1 male will do.

    Access to Hailea temp sensor wire/connector (can pull the wire via removable front panel but very tight so easier to open top cover), disconnect the male connector and connect the remote temp sensor probe male connector from 1 above to the female chiller connector (which is wired to the control panel).
    Now the control penal would receive the signal from remote temp probe.

    Route /hide the wire accordingly or via the side of chiller's removable access panel at the front(pic).

    Total cost <$4.00.

    Warning: chiller is Electrical device, some countries permit modification Only by unqualified electrician!
    Mod may void warranty.

    My advice is Not to do mod unless it is really necessary!

    it makes little difference between using internal and external temp probe (except when tank water circulation/flow is weak / uneven which are different issues.)

    Read the Flow Rate info on the pump, these days pumps are very energy efficient, quality pumps are noiseless! 6watt pump can give 800Lit/hr flow rate (pic).

    Say we use factor of 10 for Flow rate relative to tank size ratio, eg pump with 400L/hrs for 40Lit tank (2x1x1ft) would have water circulated 10 times every hour, hence Internal chiller temp probe would sense the temp of the whole tank water once every 6 minutes.

    So is there little need or justification for external temp probe given that internal temp probe would sense the temperature of the water of the entire tank in 6 minutes.

    Ps: For those larger tank with flow rate issue, new Aquael canister filter can support 2 pumps on the same canister for better water flow with a tank.

    Haliea chiller original temperature sensor built on the flowing parts, somehow it is not accurate. The most accurate temperature sensor is based on fish tank temperature right?
    I feel after fixing the external temperature probe, the kick in part is not so frequent and really tally with the aquarium tank temperature.

    Isn't that the reason for external sensor in the tank itself?

    The manufacturer would be most keen to rectify if it indeed a design issue or limitation. An optional keyhole jack for ext probe at the panel may be the answer, given that users are willing to pay $20 for a $1 BOM probe & connectors.

    But What were/was cause(s) of internal temp probe inaccuracy, is there any other external factor(s)?

    I mean the original sensor is built inside the flowing part of the chiller. Once the water travel outside the aquarium, temperature naturally change. This is the part that is not accurate.

    Chiller users were reporting different off on timing. Even with changing the pump, which is way uneconomical, did not prevent the dreaded constant off on scenario. If you have spare pump to change to, you in luck but most 1st time user has limited equipment on hand. With this modification, chiller user, even 1st timer to this equipment, are not being punished if they bought the wrong pump flowrate, this apply to canister filter too! The only thing you need to be aware of is not to use a pump/canister filter that is below 500lt/hr.
