    Hi guys!
I have a 200 litre aquarium which is facing a ton of algae so I surfed the net and found out that the most effective and natural way to rid algae is by buying Siamese Algae Eaters. I tried checking out a few stores but the Siamese Algae Eaters they sold were fake. The real one is white in colour and has a black line down the back but the ones most shops were selling were all orange in colour. Can anyone tell me where to purchase the genuine SAE in Singapore??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can check at places like C328 and Seaview... most other LFS also stock the true SAE, just have to shop around to find them.

Btw, SAE does not consume all algae, they mainly go for filamentous algae, most notably black brush algae (BBA). Though their actual effectiveness do tend to diminish very quickly once they discover that commercial fish food is much tastier and easier to get at.

Best way is still to get to the root of your algae issue. Genuine SAE will not solve your problem.

I agree with that. Better to solve teh underlying cause.
I think those orange SAE which he bought could be Chinese Algae Eaters.
I once had s lot of algae in my 2ft tank, and I bought two of those CAE. They finished off the algae within a week.
Later one of them died, I believe attacked by the other one, as I understand they are also territorial and vicious.
The remaining one however died due to lack of algae to feed on.

Maybe they have grown and become smart and have learned to go for the food meant for the fishes.

They learn very fast... the ones i kept were only 3-4cm juvenile size when i bought them (the smallest i could find) and they did graze on algae initially, but after a few weeks they started to just sit around lazily and wait for fish food. Whenever i drop food pellets or wafers into the tank during feeding time, those SAE would be the first to swim up and snatch the food. They were even faster than the tetras in grabbing food.

Yup. Some fish are really intelligent when it comes to food. And it seems fish can even recognize the owner's face too.
