I am setting up a tank I bought a second hand Co2 Cylinder, Dennerle Profi 2000 Co2 Pressure reducer/ regulator with needle valve, plus I have a second hand Dennerle Ph controller 558. The regulator also came with a bubble counter and check valve and external reactor.

Now am I correct in thinking the only thing I am missing is the CO2 Cutoff valve?
Are there generic reliable CO2 Cutoff valves available?

    Thanks Rupert

yes. hope that you did not forget the tubing.
you'll need a solenoid valve (co2 cutoff) else you cannot make use of your ph controller.
you'll be able to get solenoid valves from lfs such as nature aquarium, system & control, petmart, .... do bring the regulator and needle valve along your shopping trip to ensure the fitting are correct.

Thanks for that, buying everything second hand certainly forces one to learn, hopefully not by too many mistakes…

You got yourself a good system. I brought those brand new in Germany. For Dennerle, the solenoid is an optional item. I already tried NA, their solenoid of Taiwan brand can not work but if you buy Dennerle brand, it will cost you cool S$350. But System & control may able to help to use his solenoid that cost about S$90 but the currently no stock. You can try there..

Thanks for the info tawauboy but … I feel that I have made a mistake, that will cost more $$$ to buy the Dennerle solenoid than buying an full alternative solution. So at this point in time feel like selling it… still under warranty too!

since you have bought the various components, just use them. selling it away will incur losses.
console yourself; you have a reliable system.

I second tauauboy, you've got a system that I'd drool over.

Since Star-flog says the solenoid is a optional item, you could still go ahead and give the set a try.

P.S. Is it true that the pH controller can't be used without a solenoid?

To answer squee’s question, the controller senses the PH of the water and regulates the flow of CO2 by turning off or on the electricity to the CO2 cutoff valve. The [PH] Controller runs 24x7x365 which is good, so no timer needed. The problem I have is that JUST getting a Dennerle Cutoff valve would be about $300, I expect that I could get JBJ Solenoid regulator, bubble counter & new co2 tank for that price [plus a few beers], that I can use with the PH controller. Running a PH controller without it controlling CO2, would not do much.

So I do plan to use the PH Controller, just need to find a cut off valve or get a new Solenoid regulator.

    Thanks for the advice…

Wouldn't you think German CO2 set is a lot better, after all you've already spent that much and why change to JBJ at last moment? All you need to do to get another brand solenoid to solve this night cut-off problem.

No doubt, the Dennerle is the best if you compared to any CO2 up there in the market, especially the buddles control, it is so precise!
