    Hello

into the third week. So far I've got 8 crs shrimps and a couple of cardinal tetras.

I'm doing my maintenance every week together with changing 30% of water.

What are some way to change and scrap off algae from the glass + trimming and planting new plants without disturbing the stability?

    Thanks

I use an old credit card to scrap my tank glass algae, normal scissors for trimming of plants, 50% water tank weekly. When removing plants, slowly pull them out and shake them in the pulling process to minimize the dirt floating around. WC only after all these trimming replanting etc. Keep it simple and enjoy the result.

You can get some nerite snails if your ph isn't that low, best is near neutral. I kept 2 in ph 6 and they ended up had big hole on their shell. They are hardworking tank cleaning crew that munching around the tank.

This is how you should do basic tank maintenance (courtesy of George Farmer):

Must also have soothing music to go along with it too.

Shouldn't be a problem if you didn't stir much of the substrate as there might be some toxic waste in the process of breaking down. XD Probably they will get shock and run around when u lift up big object. Especially timid fish like otto will rocket around, I was like shit... hope my otto don't hit on any sharp objects. Try make a very gentle initial lift as some shrimps like to hide in the gap between the decor and the substrate if any. XD Not an expert in this.. just trying to be more cautious.

Your tank seem like facing algae problem??

    Re: Recommend tank maintenance method

Probably due to your tank just just setup. Also added livestock too early?? All these leads to excess nutrients and unstable parameter which is the contributing factor to algae growth. Your plants might still establishing and not at it optimum growth yet. The main factor is the nutrients, so either reduce that specific nutrient that encourage the algae growth or have some fast growing plants to out compete the aglae.

I have no knowledge on combating algae. XD You gotta seek some advices from shifu UA and others shifus on algae issue.

    Re: Recommend tank maintenance method

Since you have completed your scaping... I will recommend some floating plants like dwarf water lettuce, salvinia, duckweed, hornwort etc. so you don't have to rescape. XD My favorite will be hornwort. Just my opinion.. duckweed is really a mess as it multiply just like bacteria, 1 > 2 > 4 > 8 > 16. Then every time I use the net, I gotta wash the duckweed away. @_@ Go for bigger floating plants like salvinia unless you don't mind the mess.
The floating plants can be used temporary till your med-slow growing plants established or the algae reduce.

Hey bern, thanks for the advise. Think that sounds more viable as compared to rescaping my tank. I live across 328, think they sell it there?

It's a pleasure to visit LFS@328 as there are more than one shop there. Very well-stocked and interesting.
It is also far from my place.

Yeah~ XD Now I prefer c328 than y618 though they are related. It's slightly nearer also. But for equipments seaview top choice as large variety and attractive price.
