anyone have done a non filter tank with low volume of water before?
i have setup one but not sure it can support 2 small micro crab or more?

Should be possible... those thai micro crabs are so tiny their bio-load is almost negligible.
Just don't feed them too often, a very small amount of shrimp food once a week is more than sufficient. The rest of the time they will forage around the plants.

I have brought 10 from clementi florist and aquarium. Current only have 2 in the Non filtered setup. Rest are in a holding area.
This micro crab, not as demanding as shrimp right?. But I have read some information from some website, it say this micro crab are from fast flowing stream area. Fear that they will have problem with still water.
I notice they don't like bright lited setup. They will go to hiding mode. They even dig in to the gravel.

Yeah, i have 5 of them in a dedicated tank at the moment... so far its been 3+ months and all 5 are still alive and active. I find them to be quite hardy creatures.
It does seem that they like some flow in the tank, i usually notice that they tend to sit in the direction of filter flow and just wait for food particles to float by which get trapped in the "hairs" on their carapace, then they pick them with their claws to eat. I guess without much flow they can still probably also just scavenge around the plants and substrate.
They do prefer dimly lit environments, bright lights makes them hide away. Thats probably a natural behavior since they are so tiny, easy to get hunted and eaten by predators.
Urban Aquaria you happen to get your micro crab to breed? I saw one of the micro crab in my holding area have yellow stuff, look like egg. Anyone successfully breed them? uploadfromtaptalk1439705979078.jpg

Unfortunately they were in a community tank at that time, so i guess all of the larvae got eaten by the fishes. Didn't see any that survived.
If your tank has no small fishes, the hatched larvae should have a higher chance of survival. You probably have to feed them with powdered food or phytoplankton/green water to help sustain their growth.

Yes, the micro crabs can be kept with cherry shrimps and shrimplets. They are only around the size of juvenile shrimps.
