    Hi all,

i am planning to set up a CRS tank. After reading up many forum, I have some ideas for setting up my tank. currently I had a 40(L) x 25(W) x 26(H) tank, approximately 26L.

    planning to get
filter: Eden501/Eheim Classic 150(2211) [flowrate for both: 300L/H]
    chiller: Hailea HC-100A [flowrate: 200-1000L/H]

    need advise below
    1. Will the filter and Chiller flow rate to strong for my tank?
    2. Is it possbile to connect the brand of filter and chiller together?
    3. What canister media is need for CRS tank?

    Please advise, thank you.

In fact i feel 300L/H is not so idea. Best is to go 600L/H since you going to use chiller. Of course you can connect your canister to your chiller. But do put a sponge or filter guard on the inlet.
For bio media, can try seachem martix or bio home. Both are good. Remember to use shrimp setup bacteria, or other mineral.
Read up on difference shrimp setup. Do your home work well, if not you will be wasting your $$. CRS is a very sensitive shrimp.

Other than that, measure your water parameter well, like TDS, GH, KH and the basic parameter. Good luck.

    Dscheng thanks for the advise.

but will a 600L/H filter make my 26L tank into tornado?
sorry, I'm still new so need more advise.

Better to get a overpower canister. You can fix on a double tap to control the outflow.

    Noted.

For testing of ph, etc. will API master kit do the job for CRS tank?
Other than API master kit, do I have to get any other testing kit?

It doesn't contain KH/GH test kit so u need to buy them too.

When i watch youtube on setting up shrimp tanks, i always see pple adding shrimp mineral powder on the base of the tank before adding the substrate, is this really necessary?

most important, GH/KH test kit and TDS meter

Water change with distilled water or RODI water as our tap water even with de-chlorinator is a killer.

so after water change with distilled water, do i still need to add de-chlorinator to the distilled water? or just let it be?

RO/DI and distilled water (0 TDS) have no chlorine in them, so no need to use de-chlorinator treatment.

Note that when you do water changes with distilled water, you need to re-mineralize it with mineral additives, otherwise the tank will become mineral deficient.

Only when you do water top-ups due to evaporation, then no need to re-mineralize since the objective is to replace the evaporated water (not replacing actual water content).

You can use Mosura Mineral Plus as a remineralizing additive for RO/DI or distilled water, it works well.

As for base additives, its optional but you can put Mosura Old Sea Mud Powder as a bottom layer to establish an initial supply of beneficial minerals and trace elements.

Those 2 products i mentioned are what i have used before, but are alot of other different products on the market that do a similar job too, so you can do further research on the various brands to see which you prefer.

Btw, blue diamonds are neocaridina and can live/breed in a relatively wide range of parameters (generally easier compared to CRS), their care requirements are similar to cherry shrimps.

Ya i know blue diamonds are hardier. Maybe ill just get the substrate mineral for a 1 time dosage of mineral

Re: Need help for setting up CRS tank

    Hi guys.

I am looking for led lighting for my 40cm tank.
plan to put some moss and driftwood.

    Saw this -
UP-Aqua Pro Z Series LED Light 45cm (Plant)
    [UPZLED45P]
    SGD63.00

But I scare it can't fit to my 40cm tank.
    any recommendation?

The Z-Series LED lights are designed with plastic stand mounts that can slide along the length of the lightset, so it can be easily adjusted to fit on a 40cm tank.

    Ok. Thanks UA.

and normally when me buy moss from lfs, the moss will be tie onto woods or some like of rock. Is it ok to just put them into our tank? Should i remove it and tie to driftwood or something?
Will it affect the ph or ammonia etc?

Yes, you can either just put the moss already attached to wood or rock in the tank... but do rinse them and if possible do anti-snail/anti-algae treatment on them beforehand, to make sure they are critter/algae free.

You can also trim or pluck out the moss and re-tie them to another object (maybe on other types of wood or rocks that you prefer).

Doing either method will not directly affect pH or generate ammonia... though if you use wood it might release tannins that may lower pH, or certain rocks which may release minerals that raise pH (those effects would be due to the objects, rather than the moss).

Btw, some LFS also sell various mosses in loose form too (not attached to any objects), so you could get those if you intend to use your own wood or rocks instead.

Re: Need help for setting up CRS tank

Hey! Can I just hijack this thread for a few questions on shrimp tanks too?

I'm setting up a nano shrimp tank in my bedroom and I'm not really intending on spending a lot..
    What I planned to purchase:

    Shrimp soil or ADA soil
    Moss ball
    Cholla wood
This mineral balance thing that I was recommended at Aquarist chamber. I don't remember the name and brand of the bottle but the lady said I only needed to add a few drops of it everytime I change water.

I'm using a 120-150L hang on filter and Aquazonic LED lights.

Will I be able to keep cherry shrimps, blue bolt or whatever blue shrimps there are and CRS with just these stuffs?

For your intended nano setup, you could keep cherry shrimps... if you prefer blue variants, can get those "Blue KK" ones currently available at most LFS.

If you want to keep CRS (ie. blue bolt), then its best to also install a chiller to cool the water, otherwise they may not fare as well.
