'Pond' Lotus Growth Rate
Hi guys, I need some help. A month ago, I saw that there were many water lilies planted in a nearby pond. There were quite a lot of seeds floating around so I took one that was sprouting. Bringing it back home, I quarantined it and removed the algae on its leaves. It only had around ten small 1cm leaves when I got it, but it hasn't grown much- only putting up a few more tiny leaves after a month.
Do these pond lotus types take so long to grow? I've heard that others like the African Tiger Lotus grows very fast...
Pond lotus plants need to consume alot of nutrients to grow, if you see them growing slowly then it means not enough nutrients... so maybe try adding a good quantity of root tabs/sticks into the substrate to feed the lotus growth, then it'll grow faster.
Darn! I stated wrongly, its a pond water lily, not a pond lotus. I don't dare put alot of ferts as the algae growth went crazy when I did that once. Also, the lily is a little baby, around 1cm(for seed size) and leaves each have 1 inch stems with 1cm leaves each... Plus I am growing the lily in a spare cup-that should tell you how small the thing is. c:
Yes, pond lily also need alot of nutrients to grow too... instead of dosing lots of water column ferts, just insert root tabs/sticks into the substrate to directly feed the plant growth (rather than algae).Originally Posted by Griffith DreamWalker
