Hi. Anybody know the characteristics of this beautiful fish? I recently bought 2 pairs for my planted tank and after a day,I lost one already...it jumped probably startled when my 192 watts Coralife cfp lights turned on in the morning. Are they surface swimming fish or mid? Can you also suggest a good surface skimmer for my 50 gal tank? Btw,I'm using a Rena canister filter. Thanks.

Found in south america, as many of the SA cichlids, tetras we have in our tanks. Easily started and as a last line of defence a jump to safety. I lost quite all for suicide cases as well, because the Altums love hunting them in the mid of the night. They are top level swimmers

as for skimmer, any brand will be, even those china/taiwan made ones which comes at a fairly affordable price
