Does this small snail harm my plants?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if this small snail do harm to plant? I know they are snails as I have crush them before, but hard to get rid of totally.
It does not seems to eat the plant. But do they suck on the plant juice or whatever so? Quite new here.

yes, they are considered pests. tho it may seem just a few and may not eat alot of plants at the moment, what u want to prevent is them repopulating so fast u cant control it and have to redo your entire tank to get rid of them. Use ur hand and remove them as and when u see them

Hi Icychaosmage,

Those are freshwater limpets, they eat the algae that grows on the aquarium glass and plants, uneaten food and waste, however they are not harmful to your plants. Some people remove them for aesthetic reasons, whereas others just leave them alone, its a matter of personal preference.

I find that when I first set up a tank I get a population explosion of the things, however after a couple of months they population dies down to almost nothing. Whilst you can remove them manually, you are going to have a tough time to completely eliminate them from your tank.
