Wow, nice tank. Is it a 2 ft tank? How do you design the area at the back to plant the plants on the surface

Hi onnonn, yes it's a 2 ft tank.

I use plastic basket containers, put a layer of big size gravel, put plant soil(aquarium type), then stuff the terrestrial plant in nicely.

Next is the balancing act of tying and securing the whole container with transparent plastic tie. Show as little as possible.

Then patch the containers surface with as much moss as possible to hide the basket for taste.

Algae is not taking roots as nitrate is low. So far no fert. But I may want to try CO2 for the aquarium plants as they are starving.

Hope I can see your setup, when done, if you decided to go wild and natural like mine. Cheers!

Below are some items I used:

plastic basket containers, I use the white ones x 2

coarse gravel, so that smaller size plant soil will not fall through the holes

transparent plastic tie, to secure the tray.

Well, some people said it resemble a pond

I do kind of love this natural style, and I found quite a few damsel fly larva.

    Re: My Little Ecosystem

Hi onnonn, the downside to this setup could be super low nitrate.

Maybe overfeed a bit can resolve the problem?

Wow superb! That's also my favourite kind of aquarium/pond setup.

Maybe adding more fish will produce more CO2 and niitrate.
But also must ensure sufficient media surfaces for bacteria.

Using urine for gardening or aqua-gardening is done by some experienced people.

But the important thing to note is the dosage, namely the concentration of the urine used.
In gardening, many people just pee on the soil, or pour urine on it. But that is not the way.
The correct way is to mix the urine with water to dilute it to the correct concentration before
    applying it to the soil.

There's one challenge in another forum about Science Vs Pee to see the results

    Re: My Little Ecosystem

Just to update my old pond style design working method, this tank had been torn down.

Now I'm in the setup for my new aquaponic design http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...448-Aquaponics
