wow! nice flower you have there![]()

Hi,
After being away for a hectic week, I'm again being rewarded by a beautiful flower of Barclaya Longifolia (red) in my 2 footer. This plant had been with me for about 9 months.
Hope you'll enjoy the flower as much as I do (despite my poor photography skills).
Cheers,

nice one la brother! got barclaya longifolia to trade ? makes me itchy!!! lol
Bad photography skills ben?
The pics show otherwise, those are decent shots.
Anyway getting them to flower is your tank is one achievement and such a spectacle.

Very Nice .... You sure makes all nutrition enough for the plant to grow flower.![]()

Wow! This is the first time I see this plant flowers so nicely!
It must be the effects of the WonderGro series? Root Tablets?![]()

Congratulation Ben!
Try harvest and grow the seeds![]()

It is quite a huge plant, Samual. Consider it only if you have big tank. It looks like this in my 2 footer: http://aquaticquotient.com/forum/sho...aya+longifolia (post #17)
Don't remembered if I ever posted this:

Struggled very hard to avoid the reflected light entering the len.
I would say not much efforts from me. Just religiously fertilise the plant on monthly basis & regular water change to keep my floras & faunas happy. Anyway, thanks for introducing the GREAT root tabs.

U.K.Lau

Thanks, Yeoyl87, R36613 & Cacatuoides.
Yes, Wonder-Gro Root+ did it![]()

Ben, I'm very very impressed.
Can you take a picture of your tank?

Thanks, Wks.
I would not be able to capture the flower if I take a full tank picture because it is covered by the strap of omaya I sticked at the edge of the tank. I have posted a link to this tank in post #8 here in this thread. In that picture, the plant was 2 months old in my tank.
Cheers,
U.K.Lau

Have fun![]()

Thanks, Rwalker. This is interesting! Let's hope that the flower will fully mature & I can play scientist soon.

Saw another flower bud on the way. Hope it's able to make it to the surface.

Nice to see it flowering. Are the tips of the petals drying up?
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way

Hi,
I posted a thread regarding my experience with this many years ago:
http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ead.php?t=9057. Some of the photograph links are broken but there are still some remaining which hopefully would be useful to you in knowing what to expect. Be patient on the seeds once you get them, some of mine took more than 4 months before they germinated.
The barclaya is really cute when it is at the "plantlet" stage, anyone managed to curb the plant's growth before such that the leaves remain small?
Regards,
T S Wang

Here's my B. longifolia in culture..
The seed
The little plantlets (take months from seeds to plantlets...)
Very difficult to make them grow big and strong..I'd prefer to culture them by rhizome division.
A big healthy motherplant can have 5 - 6 splits that grow quite fast..
