I am currently in the midst of decomming my 2ft tank ( and selling the items at a reasonable price http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...pect-Light-set) , and thinking of starting a 3 ft tank. This time, I got the permission to get a larger tank plus, I can now look at a chiller.

I am looking at 3 different brands. The chillers are in order of price.

    1) Hailea 1/4 s66a
    2) Teco TK500 1/5
    3) Artica 1/5HP

I would like to find out from forumers here, what are some of your feedback on:

    1) Noise level
    2) Heat production
    3) Costs
    4) Reliability (will it break down often)
    5) How to service it

Pretty chuffed at this new prospect, as it opens new possibilities in terms of plants (eg, bolbitis heteroclita, mini pelia etc). While I am not too keen on Artica (3 times the price of the Hailea!), if there is really overwhelmingly good response, I will make it a serious consideration. At this point, it is a shootout between Teco (very aesthetically pleasing) and Hailea (very wallet pleasing) hahah.

Please feel free to comment. While I have been a aquascaper for a pretty long time, I am totally noob at chillers. Need some advice.

I'll go for teco, new design and technology as claimed by them. Do take a look at their videos on the new models.

Currently I'm using teco & arctica chillers, has sold off my hailea as it's more noisy but mine are the HC series, heard the new HS series are quieter.

I used to have a Hailea HS and it's noisier than my Artica. But other than that it works perfectly well...never have any issue.

Is the noise level substantially higher? I thinking of putting it in a cabinet

If you plant to put the chiller in a cabinet, remember to cut holes or slots into the cabinet door and walls to ensure adequate ventilation (or DIY exhaust fans to constantly extract the hot air), otherwise the heat will build up and keep re-circulating back to the chiller. With holes and gaps, noise will still travel out so you will still hear it.

I am using hailea hs 28 for standard 3 feet. No issues with its capacity and noise level. Place outside cabinet as I figure it's less problem to worry about. After a while will get used to it.

The chiller wont be operating efficiently in a cabinet unless you design the cabinet to have the chiller exhaust out straight away from the cabinet instead of hoping for the hot air to flow out through holes or slot.

Noise level not too loud....in my opinion it's only noisier compared to my Artica. If I need another chiller I have no issue buying Hailea again. Mine was HS28A...happy with its chilling on my 3 footer. I recently custom made a cabinet and have the carpenter install sliding doors back and front. That way I don't have to leave a door open for cabinets that come with two door openings. Something for your consideration.

Isn't HS28 under power for 3ft? Think should go for HS66

Sounds like Hailea has some positive reviews. I am thinking of Hailea HS66 as well or Teco Chiller Tk500
Double the price but not sure if worth it. Looks alone is a killer already. Very chio.
I am thinking of making a removable magnetic side on the right side of the cabinet so the hot air exits straight away.

Where do you service Hailea and how often do you service it?

My personal opinion is choose according to your budget. They all work fine within their warranty period. After that will be anybody's guess.

However the new teco has an edge as you can actually direct the exhaust air with this https://www.tecous.com/accessories/conveyor-extension/

So you can actually just accomodate a hole just for the vent and cabinet will look nice and tidy

Personally, have not even seen the new Teco chiller in action. I really want to see in person how this chiller perform.

Personally been using arctica for years. Low noise and reliability is what I see in them.

Re: Need reviews on chillers (Hailea, TECO, Artica

Had Hailea HS series and currently Artica DBA 150. The Hailea was fine but after 6 months it just got noisier. I'm using the artica now and I can say the Artica works extremely well for me. Easy to set up, does it job as advertised and really quiet. Haven't had Teco yet so cannot comment but if you ask me Artica vs Hailea, I would say go for the Artica if your budget allows.

Does Teco Tk500 requires external temperature probe?
