Sandbed for my Goldfish Tank, yay or nay?

Hi guys, I recently upgraded to a bigger tank so that my goldfishes would have more space to play around. However, the tank looks kind of bare and I am thinking of decorating it by first laying a bed of neutral pH aquarium sand.

I've read many forums and it seems that there are many opposing views on this issue about Goldfishes and sand. Some advocate a clean and clear aquarium floor, while others said that it is important for the goldfish to explore and forage for food.

What do you guys recommend? Thanks a lot in advance!

I siphon the goldfish poop as and when they appear, so a bare tank is best for my style of keeping goldfish.

Sand substrate is okay for a goldfish tank, just a thin layer of fine sand will suffice. The good thing about sand is all the waste will sit on top of it so it's still relatively easy to do the necessary manual removal.

please do not add sand to your goldfish tank... they will "eat " and spit the sand out and I am not sure if it is bad for sand to get into their body system..
if you really want to add, maybe try to add pebbles or smooth surface rocks. I used to put marbles in my tank when I keep koi, and 1 marble got stuck in the mouth, had a hard time removing it too.. just be aware!

maybe something like that minus the sand will be good
