Very nice scape you have there. Algaexit is safe for fish and shrimp. I think your water flow of 19L/m which is 1140L/hr is too low for your tank which could be the main cause for the BGA.
Hi all,
Just wanted to share this tank which has been running for about 1.5 months.
This is my first time keeping Altum angels, been looking for them for a long time and finally got them. Here are my tank specs.
Tank specifications: 120cm x 45cm x 45cm (approx 230 liters)
Light: 54 W x 2 bulbs. 6 hours a day(Was 54W x 4 bulbs two weeks ago but too many algae, trying to fight them).
CO2: 8bps pressurized co2
Filter: Canister filter flow rate 19 liter/min.
Plants: Microsorum trident, anubias nana white, crypto wilisii, crypto parva, crypto balansae, staurogyne repens, marsilea hirsuta and marsilea crenata + others I dont know
Ferts: Right now dosing ADA step 1 and Brighty K.
Fauna : Altum Angelfish.
Tank stats: pH 6.0, gH 4, kH 3, temp 28 degrees using 300w heater.
As you can see, I am experiencing algae breakout (green algae on glass and hardscape, black algae on mars ilea and ferns, blue green bacteria on substrate). I'm trying to dose excel but I am scared to kill the angelfish. Wanted to put ottos and shrimp but was advised against doing so as Altums will probably eat the shrimps and choke on ottos. My hands are tied now. Was thinking of removing substrate and just put hardscape like a biotope tank but too much ammonia would leech and kill the fish and I don't have a spare tank big enough to move the fish out. I'm trying to get Algaexit when I visit Sg in a weeks time, does anyone know if that is safe for fish? I'm not sure what I can do now but at least the altums are healthy, greedy and colouring nicely. I'll probably have to move them somewhere else once they grow bigger because I know they need more space.
Anyway, enjoy!

Hi Jeff,
I had a very good success in curbing my BGA. Just follow these few steps and I think you'll pull it through.
1st day: Change 50% of you water and dose 1.5x the recommended amount of algaexit. Best to pour it on the area where the blooms are. Within a few hrs, you can see the BGA turning grey. Try to remove scrap off as much BGA off ya plants as much as possible. Get a bottle of N liquid fert and dose the exact amount as recommended (Make sure its Nitrogen). Increase your outflow, more circulation the better. Don't on the lights for the next 3 days. Remember to tape your substrate preventing any lights from shining onto them.
2nd day: Observed
3rd day: Another 50% water change / Clean your canister filter and does 1.5x dosage (no more dosing till the next week) of Algaexit. You should be able to see that the BGA starts to subside tremendously. Half dose of N and full dose of liquid carbon. Oh and remember to scrap/vacuum off the dead BGA. Your water should not smell on the 3rd day after the 50% change. Most of the other algaes in your tank should be probably wiped out by then.
Full dosage of Algaexit for the next 3 weeks. As per instructed on the label and your tank will be good as new!!!
Cheers
Thank you for your input guys.
Surprising that the filter is too weak, but I did read some and will probably add another canister filter.
Mameshrimps, thank you for your advice. I will try and hopefully see some results.
Thanks again.
