Hi, I m not guru, but I think bettas are loners. I used to have 2 bettas in separate tanks. one day, I realised one Bettas was missing when I was about to feed them. Then I realised that it jump into the other tank and they fight. The intruder seem intimidated and was hiding behind a rock. I from this, I concluded they fight when they meet in same tank.

You can keep only one male per tank. If you are planning to breed them, you can introduce a female, but once the eggs are laid, you have to remove the female

Yup they can jump!! its best to keep the water line 2 in below the top of the tank...even if you have only one tank, because sometimes they can be agitated and jump out

The female betta will try to eat the eggs, and the male betta will protect the eggs by killing the female betta.

Did some reading online lately about betta cause I started keeping wild betta. It seems that show betta like the one you have are bred to such a state where they are aggressive towards own species, and as some suggested, breeders typically put the pair together just for breeding and remove immediately as there is a high chance they will kill one another.

If you really want to keep a pair together, your better opinion is to look for wild betta, although not as fabulous looking fins as those common available in LFS, they do have some pretty coloration.

Try facebook group like Wild Betta World, there are some locals that may have some wild betta available.

How big is your tank? It's not that easy to just put a female betta in the tank.. Chances are the male betta will show aggression and attack the female betta..

    Re: Betta fish

If you really want a group of bettas, females would be best. They may establish between the alpha and beta before living happily together with occasional bickers
