Hi Everybody!! I am thinking of getting few Rainbow Badis for my Nano cube tank, but those I saw at Sea View & OTF were really small. Anyone had kept these fishes before? what do they feed on as they are so small (about 1 cm)?Any advice?

    Re: Rainbow Badis

Rainbow badis (aka scarlet badis) are naturally small fishes, they usually max out at around 2cm size. Quite popular amongst nano tank keepers.

The ones i kept before seem to only eat live foods, most of the time i observe them hunting and eating detritus worms/nematodes, copepods, seed shrimps etc (and also newborn shrimplets). I also fed them daphnia moina and micro worms too. I've not actually seen them eat commercial pellet or wafer food though, so it might be abit tricky to feed them if your tank is still new without established micro-fauna populations or access to regular live food.

    Re: Rainbow Badis

Hi UA, I had tried with 3 Badis in my Nano tank since my last post, they were nice fishes but not sure why one turn pale after a short while while the other 2 are fine? (see pic) since u had Badis before, is it advisable to add in Shrimp( cherry or CRS)??

    Re: Rainbow Badis

Looks like one of your fishes is ill, could be stress or it contracted some infection or parasites... not much you can do except just monitoring and see if it recovers on its own. If in doubt, separate it from the others to limit any spread of possible illness.

As for shrimps, you can add them into the tank too, just that the fishes will snack on some shrimplets as part of their diet.
