How to lower pH in my planted tank.
Hi everybody on Aquatic Quotient, I have this theory that tapwater pH is causing my fish to develop swimbladder problems in my freshwater planted tank. You see, my tank had a pH of 6.8 and my fish were all doing fine. Then I started realizing that every time a did a water change, my fish started having swimbladder problems. At first I blamed it on copper in tapwater but then doing some research, I found out that overdoses of copper usually resulted in deaths rather than swimbladder problems. Hence I did a little test of pH on my tank water, water that was left to set for 48 hours with activated carbon in it and tapwater. My results proved that tapwater had a pH reading of 7.4, while water left to set for 48 hours with activated carbon in it had a reading of 7.2. Therefore, the fact of the matter was that contrary to my theory that activated carbon increased pH, what activated carbon actually did was either nothing at all or lowered the pH. So my question to any 师父 who can help me is: what can I do to decrease my pH so that I can do water changes?
Thanks in advance for any aid offered.
