Hi guys, aquarium newbie here! I recently bought an aquarium heater that does not have a temperature setting. As my tank is in an air-conditioned room, I want to maintain my aquarium at a constant temperature (25 degree celsius).

Was thinking of getting a thermostat socket that has a temperature measuring probe. Anyone know where I can do that?

Any other ideas are welcomed too!

Hmm.. I would check again that the heater does not have some form of temperature setting. Many of those being sold have manual settings and might not be obvious at first glance. Its quite uncommon for a heater not to have temperature control.

What livestock do you have in your tank that requires a constant 25 degrees? Shrimp?

Just curious, without the heater, what is your tank's water temperature with the room air-con constantly on? I'm assuming the air-con is always on 24/7? And whats the room air-con temp set at?

Thanks for the replies bro vannel and bro UA. I have a Boyu aquarium heater (50W) and it says its suitable for a 40-60 litre tank. My tank is approx. 55 litre so it should be good right?

vannel, you're right. I took a closer look at the heater and indeed there is a knob to adjust the temperature. What I wanted to make sure is whether there was an internal thermostat that will stop heating the tank once it has reached the desired temperature.

I keep a tank of ITs and I read that the ideal temperature range for them is around 24-28 degrees.

My air-con is usually set to 22-23 degree celsius and the aquarium is around 20-22 degree celcius. 2 of my ITs are constantly unstable so I am just thinking of experimenting with the temperature and keep it at a constant 25 degree to see if it improved their situation.

That's quite a special room environment you have there with air-con constantly on 24/7... i've been keeping various tanks in my office over the past few years but the air-con was only on during office hours, so there is always a fluctuation in the tank's water temperature between day and night.

Looks like in your case you'll just have to set the thermostat on the aquarium heater to help maintain a higher water temperature. There have been cases of heaters malfunctioning and cooking the livestock in a tank though, so you do need to monitor it regularly to make sure it's working properly.

Btw, maybe consider keeping cooler water fishes or shrimps next... the temperature would be ideal for them, then no need to use heater.
