Hey guys, this is my new small tank with a DIY filter using recycled mineral water bottle filled with ceramic rings and have attached a sponge at the bottom cap. And I've some pothos submerged in the filter to absorb the nitrates. Currently there's no fishes in my tank. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447042070.181094.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1447042143.123377.jpg

That is my favourite method of a filter except that I have the bottle the other way round ie. upright.
I cut the bottom off and tightly fit a scouring pad on it to hold the media rings. I also cut the side of the top part off to allow the outflowing current to flow to the whole surface of the tank. I usually use the tall square bottle from iso drinks.
I make it because that is what I need but could not find it on the market.

I love this type of filter! I used it before and I say it really works helping to skim the water surface and also adding to the biological filteration. However my only qualm is that when inverting the bottle, the substrate tends to be carried away by the flow of the powerhead.
